Kinetics of the uptake of cadmium, lead, copper, nickel and zinc ions from single ion solutions and from their mixture by zeolitic rock has been studied. Removal of ions obeyed the kinetic equation for adsorption. Corresponding adsorption constants and distribution coefficients were determined for each metal ion uptake from single ion solution or mixture. An attempt was made to explain zeolite selectivity to different metal ions and the influence of water hardness on the uptake in terms of metal ionic radii and enthalpy of hydration. It was found that lead ions were strongly immobilized by the zeolite investigated, both from single ion and mixed solutions, as well as from soft and hard water.

Tailored Polymer-Inorganic Bilayer SEI with Proton Holder Feature for Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries.

Conventional SEI in aqueous Zn-ion batteries mainly acts as a physical barrier to prevent HER, which is prone to structural deterioration stemming from uneven Zn deposition at high current densities. Herein, we propose an in-situ structural design of polymer-inorganic bilayer SEI with a proton holder feature by aniline-modulated electrolytes. The inner ZnF2 with high stiffness and strength effectively suppresses Zn dendrites.

A concise and convergent synthesis of the isosteroidal alkaloids veratramine and 20--veratramine has been accomplished. A Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons olefination joins two chiral building blocks of approximately equal complexity and a transition-metal catalyzed intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition-aromatization cascade constructs the tetrasubstituted arene. Other key steps include a highly diastereoselective crotylation of an -sulfonyl iminium ion and an Eschenmoser fragmentation.

Purpose: The spot size of scanned particle beams is of crucial importance for the correct dose delivery and, therefore, plays a significant role in the quality assurance (QA) of pencil beam scanning ion beam therapy.

Materials And Methods: This study compares 5 detector types-radiochromic film, ionization chamber (IC) array, flat panel detector, multiwire chamber, and IC-for measuring the spot size of proton and carbon ion beams.

Results: Variations of up to 30% were found between detectors, underscoring the impact of detector choice on QA outcomes.

The goal of this research is to develop and characterize low-cost NHI doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-4-ethyl-4-methylmorpholiniumbromide (ionic liquid) anion exchange membranes (AEM) and its application for membrane cathode assembly. Physical characterization like FTIR, POM, and XRD notified the functional groups, basic structure, and amorphosity of the produced membrane, and it was employed in single-chambered microbial fuel cells (sMFCs) as a separator. The membranes in terms of oxygen diffusion, proton conductivity, and ion exchange capabilities were evaluated.

We present a photocatalytic protocol for the -arylation of carboxylic acids using nickel complexes bearing C8-pyridyl xanthines. Our studies suggest that the underlying mechanism operates independently of external photosensitizers. Stoichiometric experiments and crystallographic studies characterize the catalytically relevant Ni complexes.
