The massic activity of a solution containing 188W in equilibrium with its daughter, 188Re, has been standardized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology using 4pi beta liquid scintillation counting with efficiency tracing using the CIEMAT NIST method. Confirmatory measurements were carried out with gamma-ray spectrometry using high purity germanium detectors and a 4pi gamma NaI(Tl) system. A calibration factor of 1.68 MBq pA(-1) +/-0.03 MBq pA(-1) (expanded, k = 2, uncertainty) for the 188W in the solution was determined, along with correction factors for activity determinations using Capintec dose calibrators. A half-life value of 69.78 d +/- 0.05 d (standard uncertainty) was determined by measurement in the NIST 4pi gamma ionization chamber and is consistent with currently recommended values.

A study on the reactivity of rigid 1-azadienes derived from methylene γ-lactams is reported. Through the functionalization of 1-amino α,β-unsaturated γ-lactam derivatives, easily available from a multicomponent reaction of amines, aldehydes, and pyruvates, it is possible to in situ generate rigid 1-azadienes locked by a γ-lactam core. The 4π-electron system of those rigid 1-azadienes can behave as both diene and dienophile species through a spontaneous cyclodimerization reaction or exclusively as dienes or dienophiles if they are trapped with imines or cyclopentadiene, respectively.

Triangulene (CH), a nonclassic non-Kekulé polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, is identified to be aromatic by structural and magnetic criteria. However, its aromatic origin remains confusing. Herein, the aromatic rules of CH and its two charged counterparts CH were investigated on the basis of a recently developed two-dimensional (2D) superatomic-molecule theory.

Transition-metal-catalyzed [4+4] cycloaddition leading to cyclooctanoids has centered on dimerization between 1,3-diene-type substrates. Herein, we describe a [4σ+4π-1] and [4σ+4π] cycloaddition strategy to access 7/8-membered fused carbocycles through rhodium-catalyzed coupling between the 4σ-donor (benzocyclobutenones) and pendant diene (4π) motifs. The two pathways can be controlled by adjusting the solvated CO concentration.

On the basis of revisions of some of the systematic errors, we reanalyzed the electron-antineutrino angular correlation (a coefficient) in free neutron decay inferred from the recoil energy spectrum of the protons which are detected in 4π by the aSPECT spectrometer. With a=-0.104 02(82) the new value differs only marginally from the one published in 2020.

The determination of activity concentrations of the CTBT-relevant radioxenon relies on a robust calibration method. A procedure is outlined using four radioxenon spikes for beta-gamma detector-systems with 4π geometry. Detection efficiencies of beta-gamma coincidences in the net count calculation method, including the interference matrix between radioxenon and radon, are determined by three measurement channels: beta singles, gamma singles and beta-gamma coincidences, without reference activity values.
