The influence of graft monocytes on graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) has not yet been established in clinical trials. To understand this association better, we evaluated the influence of bone marrow graft monocytes aiming to analyze, primarily, the correlation with acute GVHD and chronic GVHD and, secondarily, the correlation with engraftment and survival.

Clec12a controls colitis by tempering inflammation and restricting expansion of specific commensals.

Cell Host Microbe

January 2025

Microbiota composition regulates colitis severity, yet the innate immune mechanisms that control commensal communities and prevent disease remain unclear. We show that the innate immune receptor, Clec12a, impacts colitis severity by regulating microbiota composition. Transplantation of microbiota from a Clec12a animal is sufficient to worsen colitis in wild-type mice.

This retrospective study aimed to stress the advantages of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) in treating primary MM. Ninety-four MM patients who underwent initial parallel sequential auto-HSCT were selected. Data on efficacy (efficacy evaluation, renal function and hemoglobin recovery), immune reconstitution (B-cell subsets, immunoglobulin levels, T-cell subsets, NK cells, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR)) and hematopoietic reconstitution times were collected and analyzed.

Monocytes are crucial players in innate immunity. The human cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection has significant impacts on monocyte effector functions and gene expression. CMV, a β-herpesvirus, disrupts key monocyte roles, including phagocytosis, antigen presentation, cytokine production, and migration, impairing their ability to combat pathogens and activate adaptive immune responses.

A novel patient group with chronic pulmonary fibrosis is emerging post COVID-19. To identify patients at risk of developing post-COVID-19 lung fibrosis, we here aimed to identify systemic proteins that overlap with fibrotic markers identified in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and may predict COVID-19-induced lung fibrosis. Ninety-two proteins were measured in plasma samples from hospitalized patients with moderate and severe COVID-19 in Sweden, before the introduction of the vaccination program, as well as from healthy individuals.

Complement activation drives the phagocytosis of necrotic cell debris and resolution of liver injury.

Front Immunol

January 2025

Laboratory of Molecular Immunology, Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation, Rega Institute for Medical Research, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

Cells die by necrosis due to excessive chemical or thermal stress, leading to plasma membrane rupture, release of intracellular components and severe inflammation. The clearance of necrotic cell debris is crucial for tissue recovery and injury resolution, however, the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood, especially . This study examined the role of complement proteins in promoting clearance of necrotic cell debris by leukocytes and their influence on liver regeneration.
