Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Tokai University, Hiratsuka, Kanagawa, Japan.

Background: In Japan, the increase in the number of accidents involving elderly drivers has become a very serious problem. The government has implemented a cognitive function test at the time of driver's license renewal and has taken measures to disallow driving by elderly drivers with Alzheimer's disease, but drivers with MCI and other types of dementia continue to drive. One of the measures recommended to contribute to the safe driving of elderly drivers is to encourage them to talk to their passengers.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Neurology, and Epidemiology, University of California San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, USA.

Background: Prior studies have found that traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with increased risk of both death and dementia in older adults including veterans. Clinically, it would be useful to be able to accurately predict the likelihood of these two outcomes for a given patient.

Method: Our study population included all individuals aged 55 years or older who received care from the Veterans Health Administration between 2002 and 2019, had a TBI diagnosis, had at least one post-TBI healthcare visit, and did not have a dementia diagnosis or medication before or up to 1 month after the TBI (n = 113,779).

Background: Guidelines that provide current and comprehensive overviews of the evidence quality and effectiveness of interventions that address behaviours and psychological symptoms associated with dementia (BPSD, also known as Changed Behaviours) are needed for clinicians, professional care staff and family care partners. With funding provided by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, we aimed to update the existing Behaviour Management: A Guide to Good Practice, Managing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (2012) text and app resources to reflect findings from the most recent literature and other sources.

Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Medline, Embase, and PsycINFO for psychosocial and environmental and biological and pharmacological interventions published between 2012-2021 that addressed BPSD.

Background And Objectives: Telemedicine, including teleneurology, has emerged as a valuable tool for providing healthcare services remotely, particularly in situations where distance plays a critical role. Teleneurology has the potential to increase access to care, improve patient outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs, especially for patients in rural and underserved areas. We aimed to investigate patients and health care providers satisfaction with teleneurology for dementia.
