Several Chlamydia trachomatis lineages identified through outer membrane protein A genotyping or multilocus sequence typing have been circulating worldwide among men who have sex with men. In a study in Tokyo, Japan, we demonstrate that such lineages commonly belong to a specific polymorphic membrane protein E clade across genotypes.

The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) plays a vital role in the vertebrate immune system due to its role in infection, disease and autoimmunity, or recognition of "self". The marsupial MHC class II genes show divergence from eutherian MHC class II genes and are a unique taxon of therian mammals that give birth to altricial and immunologically naive young providing an opportune study system for investigating evolution of the immune system. Additionally, the MHC in marsupials has been implicated in disease associations, including susceptibility to Chlamydia pecorum infection in koalas.

The evolution of symbiotic interactions may be affected by unpredictable conditions. However, a link between prevalence of these conditions and symbiosis has not been widely demonstrated. We test for these associations using social amoebae and their bacterial endosymbionts.

Chlamydiosis, an infection caused by several Chlamydia species, has been reported in Nile, saltwater, and Siamese crocodiles. Despite its widespread reports in various countries, including Thailand, genetic information on Chlamydia species remains limited. This study presents a whole-genome-based characterization of Siamese crocodile-isolated Chlamydia.
