Involuntary weight loss with lean tissue depletion is a serious and AIDS-defining complication of HIV infection. This article explores definitions of AIDS wasting syndrome (AWS), its etiology, methods of assessing body composition, and pharmacological treatments. Recent research literature on the role of exercise in the prevention and treatment of AWS is reviewed. Included are studies of the safety of exercise, the effects of exercise on the immune system, and the effects of exercise on weight gain and body composition as well as studies of exercise in combination with medications and other interventions. Implications for clinical practice are discussed.

Academic stress is associated with lower engagement in healthy behaviors, including physical exercise, among middle school students. Based on Self-Determination Theory, this study examines the association between academic stress and physical exercise behavior among middle school students, exploring the mechanisms through the chained mediation of motivation and intention. Scales used in this study include the Academic Stress Scale, Autonomous and Controlled Motivation Scales, and Physical Exercise Intention and Behavior Scales to measure relevant variables.

This review summarizes the mechanism and role of physical activity in maintaining the proper functioning of the musculoskeletal system. Bone adaptation to the mechanical environment occurs in skeletal regions subjected to the greatest stresses resulting from the nature of exercise, however, there is a varied response of bone tissue to mechanical loads depending on its material and structural properties (trabecular and cortical). The regulation of bone tissue metabolism during physical exercise is influenced by factors associated with mechanical stress (gravitational forces, impact loading, and muscular contractions) as well as by systemic mechanisms (hormones, myokines, cytokines).

Aging diminishes antioxidant systems that maintain iron homeostasis, particularly affecting the glutathione peroxidase (GPX) system, leading to increased ferroptosis and exacerbated neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in AD. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key transcription factor regulating genes involved in antioxidant defense and ferroptosis.

Background: Physical exercise improves overall brain health, cognition, and stimulates the release of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in humans. Exercise upregulates irisin, a myokine derived from fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5) previously shown to mediate the beneficial actions of exercise on memory in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD).
