The title compound, [Cu(C(4)H(8)N(2))(4)]SO(4).0.5CH(3)CN.1.5H(2)O, consists of a double chain wherein the Cu centres are octahedrally coordinated by four 1-methylimidazole ligands in the equatorial plane and by two axial sulfate ions which act as bridges between the Cu centres. The Cu-N bond lengths lie between 1.9929(14) and 2.0226(14)A, but the Cu-O bond distances are longer, with values between 2.3496(13) and 2.8276(14)A. The water molecules participate in the formation of a network of hydrogen bonds of significance in maintaining the connectivity of the structure.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, {[Ni(NCS)(CHN)]·CHCN} , the Ni cation is octa-hedrally coordinated by two N-bonding and two S-bonding thio-cyanate anions, as well as two 3-methyl-pyridine coligands, with the thio-cyanate S atoms and the 3-methyl-pyridine N atoms in -positions. The metal cations are linked by pairs of thio-cyanate anions into chains that, because of the -- coordination, are corrugated. These chains are arranged in such a way that channels are formed in which disordered aceto-nitrile solvate mol-ecules are located.

Two kinds of silver(I) coordination polymers consisting of the same chemical composition, [Ag(CFSO)(L)] [L is 2-methylidene-1,3-bis(nicotinoyloxy)propane], were synthesized and characterized by infrared (IR) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, elemental and thermal analyses, and single-crystal X-ray diffractometry; these are catena-poly[[(trifluoromethanesulfonato-κO)silver(I)]-μ-2-methylenepropane-1,3-diyl dinicotinate-κN:N'], [Ag(CFSO)(CHNO)], and its chloroform monosolvate, {[Ag(CFSO)(CHNO)]·CHCl}. The X-ray crystallographic measurements revealed that the silver(I) compounds exhibit one-dimensional sinusoidal or helical molecular structures depending on the solvent used for crystallization. Self-assembly in a methanol/chloroform mixture produces the sinusoidal molecular strand, whereas recrystallization from acetonitrile medium affords a racemic mixture of the helical strands.

The title coordination polymer, [Cu(SO)(CHN)] , was synthesized using a one-pot reaction of copper powder, anhydrous copper(II) sulfate and 3,5-dimethyl-1-pyrazole (Hdmpz) in aceto-nitrile under ambient conditions. The asymmetric unit can be described as a chain consisting of four [Cu(SO)(Hdmpz)] formula units that are connected to each other by a μ-sulfato-bridged ligand. The octa-hedral coordination geometry (ON) of all copper atoms is realized by coordination of four pyrazole ligands and two sulfate ligands.

The one-dimensional coordination polymer () [Sr(ib)(Hmda)] (Hib = isobutyric acid, CHO, and Hmda = -methyldi-ethano-lamine, CHNO), namely, -poly[[(-methyldi-ethano-lamine-κ ,,')strontium(II)]-di-μ-isobutyrato-κ ,':;κ :,'], was prepared by the one-pot aerobic reaction of [ZrO(OH)(ib)(HO)]·3Hib with Sr(NO) and Hmda in the presence of MnCl and EtN in aceto-nitrile. The use of MnCl is key to the isolation of as high-quality colorless crystals in good yield. The mol-ecular solid-state structure of was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

The central copper(II) atom of the title salt, {[Cu(CFSO)(CHCN)(CHNO)](CFSO)} or [[Cu(CHCN)(diOMe-bpy)(CFSO)](CFSO)] where diOMe-bpy is 4,4'-dimeth-oxy-2,2'-bi-pyridine, CHNO, is sixfold coordin-ated by the N atoms of the chelating bi-pyridine ligand, the N atoms of two aceto-nitrile mol-ecules, and two tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate O atoms in a tetra-gonally distorted octa-hedral shape. The formation of polymeric chains [Cu(CHCN)(diOMe-bpy)(CFSO)] leaves voids for the non-coordinating tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate anions that inter-act with the complex through weak hydrogen bonds. The presence of weakly coordinating ligands like aceto-nitrile and tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate makes the title compound a convenient starting material for the synthesis of novel metal-organic frameworks.
