Article Abstract

This study uses the masked priming procedure to compare the decompositionality of regular with irregular English past tense forms relative to both an unrelated baseline and a baseline matched on orthographic similarity to the morphological prime. Morphological facilitation varies with the degree of similarity between related primes and targets. Discrepancies between unrelated and orthographic baselines arise when prime and target match in length and form overlap is high. The outcome demonstrates the key role of baselines in assessments of morphological facilitation and highlights problems of interpretation when evidence of morphological decomposition depends on meeting a statistical criterion for significant morphological facilitation.

Exploring the Unique Properties and Superior Schwann Cell Guiding Abilities of Spider Egg Sac Silk.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

January 2025

Institute of Physics and Materials Science, Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Ressources, BOKU University, Peter Jordan-Straß 82, 1190 Vienna, Austria.

Spider silk (SPSI) is a promising candidate for use as a filler material in nerve guidance conduits (NGCs), facilitating peripheral nerve regeneration by providing a scaffold for Schwann cells (SCs) and axonal growth. However, the specific properties of SPSI that contribute to its regenerative success remain unclear. In this study, the egg sac silk of is investigated, which contains two distinct fiber types: tubuliform (TU) and major ampullate (MA) silk.

This study addresses the pervasive issue of particulate matter (PM) emission in urban areas, proposing a better approach using scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques to identify plant species effective in airborne PM removal. Conducted in Bilaspur city, the research strategically selected six plant species across four distinct sites and applied the SEM-Image J method for analysis, yielding significant insights, especially in the respirable PM range. Among the tested plant species, Senna Siamea and Dalbergia Sissoo emerged as consistent and standout performers, displaying the highest PM removal efficiency across all sites.

Machine vision model for drip leakage detection of pipeline.

PLoS One

January 2025

School of Power and Mechanical Engineering, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China.

The prevailing trend in industrial equipment development is integration, with pipelines as the lifeline connecting system components. Given the often harsh conditions of these industrial equipment pipelines, leakage is a common occurrence that can disrupt normal operations and, in severe cases, lead to safety accidents. Early detection of even minor drips at the onset of leakage can enable timely maintenance measures, preventing more significant leaks and halting the escalation of pipeline failures.

Corneal blindness, a leading cause of visual impairment globally, has created a pressing need for alternatives to corneal transplantation due to the severe shortage of donor tissues. In this study, we present a novel interpenetrating network hydrogel composed of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and oxidized carboxymethyl cellulose (OxiCMC) for bioprinting a biomimetic corneal stroma equivalent. We tested different combinations of GelMA and OxiCMC to optimize printability and subsequently evaluated these combinations using rheological studies for gelation and other physical, chemical, and biological properties.

Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology is revolutionizing cell biology. However, the variability between individual iPSC lines and the lack of efficient technology to comprehensively characterize iPSC-derived cell types hinder its adoption in routine preclinical screening settings. To facilitate the validation of iPSC-derived cell culture composition, we have implemented an imaging assay based on cell painting and convolutional neural networks to recognize cell types in dense and mixed cultures with high fidelity.
