Splenic marginal zone lymphoma is a recently described primary splenic lymphoproliferative disorder that mainly affects older individuals. We report the case of a 22-year-old woman with morphologic and immunophenotypic findings consistent with splenic marginal zone lymphoma. This woman is one of the youngest patients ever described with this disease. The patient presented with complaints of left-sided abdominal fullness and was noted to have splenomegaly on physical examination. Laboratory evaluation revealed pancytopenia and a serum M component. The spleen was removed and weighed 1550 g. Histology showed prominent white pulp with an expanded marginal zone. The neoplastic cells were marginal zone-type cells with small to intermediate-sized nuclei with occasional conspicuous nucleoli and moderate amounts of pale to amphophilic cytoplasm. Immunophenotypic analysis revealed a B-cell population (CD20 positive) with kappa-light-chain restriction. The patient was treated with adjuvant therapy, but developed progressive disease less than 2 years after initial diagnosis.

Marginal zone lymphoma has seldom been described in relation to adalimumab used for treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa. Although studies have shown an increased risk of lymphoma with adalimumab, most of these studies were done in patients with underlying inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis where the disease itself presents as a confounder for lymphoma. Our case described adds to the role of chronic anti-TNF alpha therapy as a possible etiology of lymphoma.

Grasses can sustain soil functions despite nutrient depletion, which can have serious consequences for soil processes and ecosystem services. This paper summarizes the results of the long-term experiment (1995-2024) carried out in within a temperate climate zone, focusing on the productivity of natural and managed grasslands; their succession changes over time, and so do the effects on soil chemical properties, and soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration. The results indicated that two land uses-abandoned land (AL) and grassland fertilized with mineral fertilizers (MGf)-can be effectively applied to prevent soil degradation.

Cowpea is deemed as a food security crop due to its ability to produce significant yields under conditions where other staples fail. Its resilience in harsh environments; such as drought, heat and marginal soils; along with its nitrogen-fixing capabilities and suitability as livestock feed make cowpea a preferred choice in many farming systems across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Despite its importance, Cowpea yields in farmers' fields remain suboptimal, primarily due to biotic and abiotic factors and the use of either unimproved varieties or improved varieties that are not well-suited to local conditions.
