The crystal structures of beta-1,2,3-tris(pentadecanoyl)glycerol (beta-C15C15C15), beta-1,2,3-tris(heptadecanoyl)glycerol (beta-C17C17C17) and beta-1,2,3-tris(nonadecanoyl)glycerol (beta-C19C19C19) have been determined from high-resolution X-ray powder diffraction data. Grid search and Rietveld refinement have been used to determine and refine the structures, respectively. As in beta-1,2,3-tris(tridecanoyl)glycerol (beta-C13C13C13) and the even-numbered mono-acid triacylglycerols, all three odd-numbered monoacid triacylglycerols crystallize in space group P1 with Z = 2 in an asymmetric tuning-fork conformation and have a lateral acyl chain packing resulting in a layered structure.

DFT study of the binary intermetallic compound NdMn in different polytypic phases.

J Mol Model

Department of Physics, University of Malakand, Chakdara, Dir (Lower), 18800, KP, Pakistan.

Context: The structural stability, ground state magnetic order, electronic, elastic and thermoelectric properties of NdMn in the C15, C14 and C36 polytypic phases is investigated. The magnetic phase optimization and magnetic susceptibility reveal that NdMn is antiferromagnetic (AFM) in C36 phase; and paramagnetic (PM) in C14 and C15 phases respectively. The band profiles and electrical resistivity show the metallic nature in all these polytypic phases and reveal that the C36 phase possesses smaller resistivity.

Thirteen new meroterpenoids, acremorins A-M (1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 9-16), together with three known analogues (3, 5 and 8) were isolated from the deep-sea-derived fungus Acremonium sclerotigenum LW14 guided by the genomic and OSMAC strategy. Their structures and absolute configurations were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations, Rh(OCOCF)-induced ECD experiments, and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. Compounds 2, 4, 6 and 9 represent the rare brominated ascochlorins.

The growing focus on sustainable use of natural resources has brought attention to cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), a by-product rich in anacardic acids (AAs) with potential applications in diabetes treatment. In this study, three different AAs from CNSL, monoene (15:1, AAn1), diene (15:2, AAn2), and triene (15:3, AAn3), and a mixture of the three (mix) were evaluated as -glucosidase inhibitors. The samples were characterized by combining 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, along with ESI-MS.

Article Synopsis
  • Cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs) are important secondary metabolites with different biological activities, primarily produced in three families: iturins, fengycins, and surfactins, each consisting of cyclic peptides attached to fatty acids.
  • The study focused on isolating and analyzing various CLP variants from the strain UMAF6639, testing their effects on antifungal activity and promoting plant growth, revealing that both these effects depend on the specific lipopeptide variant and its concentration.
  • The research highlights a balance in the abundance and toxicity of these variants, showing that less abundant toxic variants can work synergistically with more abundant, less toxic ones, while also contributing to increased bacterial populations and bioactivity, which could lead to sustainable agricultural

The effects of dairy sterilization techniques (65 °C/30 min, 72 °C/15 s, 85 °C/15 s, 100 °C/5 min, and 121 °C/5 s) on the epigallocatechin-3-gallate-casein (EGCG-CS) complexes were investigated through the structural and functional characteristics in this work. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) detection showed the redshirting of the absorption peak suggested structural changes in the amide I area. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and viscosity measurements proved that treatments above 85 °C broke non-covalent bonds, leading to instability and low viscosity of EGCG-CS.
