This article describes a 16-yr-old male patient who went into shock and cardiac arrest 2 wk after surgical repair of an atrial septal defect. Cardiac tamponade was diagnosed and promptly treated, and his hemodynamic status stabilized 4 hr after the initial presentation of shock; however, paraplegia was found when the patient regained consciousness. Physicians should be alert to a possible diagnosis of spinal cord infarction in patients with complications of cardiovascular surgery, particularly when a new onset of neurologic symptoms or signs occurs.

Motor imagery (MI) engages a broad network of brain regions to imagine a specific action. Investigating the mechanism of brain network reorganization during MI after spinal cord injury (SCI) is crucial because it reflects overall brain activity. Using electroencephalogram (EEG) data from SCI patients, we conducted EEG-based coherence analysis to examine different brain network reorganizations across different frequency bands, from resting to MI.

Background: While dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) show therapeutic potential for spinal cord injury (SCI), post-traumatic oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction critically compromise grafted cell survival. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a noninvasive approach that may enhance regenerative efficacy. This study investigates whether PBMT improves the survival and neural differentiation of transplanted DPSCs in SCI models.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) significantly impairs quality of life due to its high disability rate. Recent research indicates that the long non-coding RNA Malat1 is specifically upregulated in MS and is critically involved in mediating neuroinflammatory responses and microglial activation. This study explores the function and mechanism of the Malat1/miR-124-3p/Sgk1 pathway in MS and microglia activation.

Purpose: Return to work (RTW) after a major traumatic injury (MTI; traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multi-trauma orthopaedic injury) is an important rehabilitation outcome. This study aimed to explore the experience of early vocational rehabilitation (EVR) after MTI, and RTW barriers/facilitators.
Methods: Adopting a qualitative design, 24 people with MTI were interviewed about participating in the Early Intervention Vocational Rehabilitation Service (EIVRS).

Distinctive patterns of brain neurotransmission frame determinant circuits for behavior. Understanding the relationship between their damage and the cognitive impairment provoked by brain lesions could provide insights into the pathophysiology and therapeutics of disabling disorders, like stroke. Yet, the challenges of neurotransmitter circuits mapping in vivo have hampered this investigation.
