Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the relationship between pancytopenia (a decrease in blood cells) and disseminated histoplasmosis, noting that this connection is rarely documented in existing literature.
  • The authors reviewed 72 cases worldwide, primarily from the Americas, finding that many patients had underlying conditions, such as HIV and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
  • Recovery rates were relatively high at 73.6%, but significant mortality was attributed to diagnostic delays and complications, indicating that early recognition of pancytopenia may be crucial for better patient outcomes.

Background Aims: With novel therapies improving prognosis, the complications of multiple myeloma after multi-line treatment, particularly myelosuppression, have become a crucial determinant of long-term outcomes. Non-myeloablative allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a feasible option, but the transplant-related mortality rate remains high. Our study presents a relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma patient with a 9-year disease history.

Background: This study investigated poor prognostic factors for the relapse of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients with microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) after remission induction therapy.

Methods: We enrolled patients diagnosed with MPA complicated by ILD according to the Chapel Hill Consensus definition from 2001 to 2023 in multiple institutions in the REVEAL cohort. All patients who were treated with immunosuppressive therapy were followed up, and those who relapsed with ILD were extracted in this study.

Pertussis resurgence has been documented even in countries with high pediatric vaccine coverage. The proportion of isolates not expressing pertactin (PRN) has increased in several countries where acellular pertussis (aP) vaccines are used. We systematically reviewed published literature up to July 2023 on PRN-negative isolates in MEDLINE and Embase with no geographical limitations, complemented with a gray literature search.
