The synthesis of an NbO-type metal-organic framework was achieved by design: o-Br-BDC (BDC = benzenedicarboxylate) was used to direct the formation of Cu2(CO2)4 paddle wheel units at 90 degrees to each other and thus yield the target network. The compound was formulated as Cu2[o-Br-BDC]2(H2O)2.(DMF)8(H2O)2 (MOF-101) and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction [cubic, space group Imm (No. 229) with a = 21.607(3) A, V = 10088(2) A3, Z = 6], which fully confirmed the presence of the expected structure. Despite having very large apertures and voids, MOF-101 has a noninterpenetrated structure, an intriguing observation that is discussed in the context of dual structures.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) has become a major challenge in tumor chemotherapy, primarily associated with the overexpression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp). Inhibiting P-gp expression and function through redox dyshomeostasis has shown great potential for reversing MDR. Here, a nanometer system of copper-based metal-organic framework (HA-CuMOF@DOX) modified with hyaluronic acid (HA) was constructed to overcome MDR via two-way regulation of redox homeostasis under hypoxia.

This study reports a novel ratiometric fluorescence sensor based on a tetraphenylethylene-bipyridine covalent organic framework (TPE-Bpy-COF) for the sensitive detection of Cu, leveraging the unique coordination properties of the bipyridine moieties. The interaction between Cu and the nitrogen atoms in the bipyridine units induces fluorescence quenching at 500 nm through an efficient host-guest electron transfer mechanism, where excited-state electrons from the COF framework are transferred to the vacant orbitals of Cu. Upon excitation at 410 nm, the sensor exhibits a primary emission peak at 500 nm, which is quenched in the presence of Cu, while an overtone peak at 820 nm remains stable, serving as an internal reference for ratiometric measurements and significantly enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the sensor.

Cellulose has been broadly used in wastewater treatment. However, its adsorption capacity is limited by the lack of strong sites interacted with pollutants. Because of the good ability of carrying other substances, cellulose-based materials still have considerable room for improvement in adsorption capacity.

Hydroquinone (HQ) and copper ions (Cu) are categorized as environmental pollutants that are severely limited in water. Designing a selective assay for discriminating HQ from its two isomers and the convenient determination of Cu is of great importance. Herein, a Tb-based metal-organic framework (Tb-MOF) and HQ are assembled innovatively into a ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe to selectively distinguish HQ and subsequent quantitative visual detection of Cu.

Thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (HThz), a thiazolothiazole (TTz) derivative with carboxylic acid groups, was synthesized as a ligand for the creation of five MOFs, each associated with distinct metal ions including Ag, Mn, Co, Zn, and Cu. The cathodic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of HThz and the resulting MOFs was investigated. HThz was found to generate ECL signals, but this process was heavily reliant on potassium persulfate (KSO) as a co-reactant.
