Hemangiomas are tumors. Hemangiomas near the geniculate ganglion or in the internal acoustic meatus are well known but rare. We present two cases of hemangiomas located at the porus acusticus, an even more rare site. MRI showed a millimeter-sized tumor, located in the porus acusticus, developing perpendicular to the axis of the acoustico-facial nerves, surrounding them. They were hyperintense on T1-weighted images, strongly hyperintense on T2-weighted images with a characteristic progressive and marked enhancement after injection of gadolinium DTPA. Similar signal abnormalities were present in the adjacent temporal bone, and CT scan demonstrated a honeycomb appearance with intratumoral bony spicules. These imaging criteria allows differentiation between hemangioma and neurinoma. We hypothesize that this location is related to the presence of a rich vascular plexus of the dura mater in this area.

Objective: Koos grade 4 vestibular schwannoma (KG4VS) is a large tumor that causes brainstem displacement and is generally considered a candidate for surgery. Few studies have examined the relationship between morphological differences in KG4VS other than tumor size and postoperative facial nerve function. The authors have developed a landmark-based subclassification of KG4VS that provides insights into the morphology of this tumor and can predict the risk of facial nerve injury during microsurgery.

Background: Brachycephalic dog breeds have multiple skull malformations which may lead to anatomical changes in the external auditory canal. It is our frequent observation that in the otoscopic examination of the external ear in these breeds we are unable to visualise the tympanic membrane as a consequence of extreme narrowing of the proximal ear canal. Additionally brachycephalic dogs reportedly are predisposed to otitis externa (OE) and otitis media.

Patient Concerns: We report a case of paroxysmal recurrent vertigo accompanying clicking tinnitus on the left side in a 61-year-old patient. He had undergone microvascular decompression to treat the left-side hemifacial spasm 6 years prior.

Introduction: A technique to localize a radiological target on the head convexity fast and with acceptable precision is sufficient for surgeries of superficial intracranial lesions, and of help in the setting of emergency surgery, computer navigation breakdown, limited resources and education. We present a caliper technique based on fundamental geometry, with inexpensive and globally available tools (conventional CT or MRI image viewer, calculator, caliper).
Methods: The distances of the radiological target from two landmarks (nasion and porus acusticus externus) are assessed with an image viewer and Pythagoras' theorem.
