The author presents a series of personal cases of meniscal cysts, compares them with other series in the literature, and draws certain conclusions. The meniscal cyst appears to be one of the manifestations of the myxoid degeneration of the meniscus-degeneration induced by small daily traumatisms. The rarity of the condition is related to the fact that movement of the myxoid substance is asymptomatic when it is towards the joint cavity. The greater frequency of the condition on the external meniscus is explained by a study of the forces applied on the knee. In contrast to the prevailing idea that surgical treatment is required, the author believes that puncture of the cyst is the most logical and simple treatment. This puncture avoids, in the long term, the risks of meniscectomy, which in 30 to 50 percent of cases, according to different authors, leads to poor results.

Osteoarthr Cartil Open

Pain Centre Versus Arthritis and Academic Unit of Injury, Recovery and Inflammation Sciences, University of Nottingham, UK.
Objectives: Histological osteochondral characteristics of inflammation, fibrosis, vascularity, cartilage islands, vessels entering cartilage, thickened trabeculae and cysts are associated with bone marrow lesions (BMLs) in human knee osteoarthritis (OA). We identified and developed a method for scoring comparable pathology in two rat OA knee pain models.
Methods: Rats (n = 8-10 per group) were injected with monoiodoacetate (MIA) or saline, or underwent meniscal transection (MNX) or sham surgery.

Lateral knee cysts are relatively common synovial swelling. They are commonly benign swelling due to synovial fluid herniation from the joint. They are usually asymptomatic and in most cases are so small that only magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can confirm the diagnosis.

Introduction And Importance: Meniscal cysts, while infrequent with a prevalence of 1 %-8 %, may result in considerable knee discomfort and functional limitations. The cysts are categorized according to their position in relation through the meniscus, labeled as either intrameniscal or parameniscal. Although parameniscal cysts are often small and asymptomatic, they may expand and become painful with time.
