The effect of serum added to a modified SOF medium on pulsatile activity and hatching of in vitro produced cow blastocysts was investigated by time-lapse cinematography. Embryos were generated from abattoir material and cultured in mSOF without serum or with 10% FCS added at 42h pi. Addition of serum significantly increases pulsatile activity before zona rupture and reduces the time of hatching. Pulsatile activity does not seem to be involved in the hatching process.

Background And Purpose: Proximal protection devices, such as TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR, SilkRoad Medical, Sunnyvale), aim to yield better outcomes in carotid artery stenting (CAS) than distal protection devices by preventing plaque embolization to the brain. However, transfemoral catheters may not fully reverse flow from the external carotid artery (ECA) to the internal carotid artery (ICA). We assess a new balloon-sheath device, Femoral Flow Reversal Access for Carotid Artery Stenting (FFRACAS), for this purpose.

Background And Aims: Puberty is a crucial developmental stage marked by the transition from childhood to adulthood, organized by complex hormonal signaling within the neuroendocrine system. The hypothalamus, a central region in this system, regulates pubertal functions through the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons, essential in puberty control, release GnRH in a pulsatile manner, initiating the production of sex hormones.

Objective: To determine if intermittent neuromuscular electrostimulation (NMES) of the common peroneal nerve increases microvascular flow and pulsatility in and around the wound bed of patients with combined venous and arterial etiology.
Methods: Seven consenting participants presenting with mixed etiology leg ulcers participated in this study. Microvascular flow and pulsatility was measured in the wound bed and in the skin surrounding the wound using laser speckle contrast imaging.

Mean middle cerebral artery velocity (MCAv) and the pulsatility index (PI), at rest and in response to exercise, are important markers of cerebrovascular health status in middle-aged adults, when vascular decline assumes substantial relevance. Thus, this study aimed to describe and compare the responses of MCAv and PI to incremental exercise. Two hundred and forty-eight volunteers (50-58 years, 55% women) completed a ramp test on a cycle-ergometer.

In mammals, lactation is essential for the health and growth of infants and supports the formation of the mother-infant bond. Breastfeeding is mediated by the neurohormone oxytocin (OT), which is released into the bloodstream in a pulsatile manner from OT neurons in the hypothalamus to promote milk ejection into mammary ducts. While classical studies using anesthetized rats have illuminated the activity patterns of putative OT neurons during breastfeeding, the molecular, cellular, and neural circuit mechanisms driving the synchronous pulsatile bursts of OT neurons in response to nipple stimulation remain largely elusive.
