A mild, general, and efficient method for the synthesis of 2-monosubstituted and 2,5-disubstituted furans via the CuI-catalyzed cycloisomerization of alkynyl ketones was developed. It was demonstrated that furans containing both acid- and base-labile groups could be easily synthesized using this methodology. A plausible mechanism for this transformation is proposed.

A subgroup analysis of a randomized study demonstrated that patients with advanced or metastatic liposarcoma treated with eribulin had longer overall survival and progression-free survival compared to those treated with dacarbazine, suggesting eribulin as a therapeutic option for advanced liposarcoma. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of eribulin versus dacarbazine in the treatment of advanced liposarcoma. We established a 10-year Markov model to compare the cost-effectiveness of eribulin and dacarbazine regimens.

The biomass-derived furan aldehydes furfural (FF) and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) are versatile platform chemicals used to produce various value-added chemicals through further valorization processes. Selectively reducing C═O in FF and HMF molecules to form furfuryl alcohol (FAL) and 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF), represents an important research field in upgrading biomass-based furan compounds. (±)-Melichuniiones A and B (1 and 2), two novel enantiomeric pairs of lignan-phloroglucinol hybrids with an unprecedented beadlike core were isolated from the leaves of , together with new analogues 3-6. Compounds 1 and 2 possess a unique dispiro [furan-2,5'-cyclopenta[]furan-2',3''-furan] 5/5/5/5 tetracyclic skeleton. Conjugated polymers have attracted extensive attention as semiconducting materials in wearable and flexible electronics. In this study, we utilize atom-economical Knoevenagel reaction to construct two conjugated polymers, PTDPP-CNTT and PFDPP-CNTT, based on dialdehyde-thiophene/furan-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) and 2,2'-(thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2,5-diyl)diacetonitrile (CNTT). The resulting polymers exhibited suitable highest occupied molecular orbital/lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO/LUMO) energy levels, small bandgaps, and broad UV-vis-NIR absorptions (≈400-1000 nm), endowing them with photothermal and balanced ambipolar semiconducting properties with hole and electron mobilities over 10 cmVs.
