Epilepsy presents a significant global health challenge, impacting millions worldwide. Alarmingly, over half of individuals living with epilepsy (PWE) also face concurrent medical conditions, with psychiatric complications, particularly depression, standing out as prevalent issues. The relationship between epilepsy and depression is complex and bidirectional, with approximately a quarter of adults with epilepsy receiving a diagnosis of depression.

Aortic stenosis (AS) was historically considered a disease of the left side of the heart, with the main pathophysiological impact being predominantly on the left ventricle (LV). However, progressive pressure overload in AS can initiate a cascade of extra-valvular myocardial remodeling that could also precipitate maladaptive alterations in the structure and function of the right ventricle (RV). The haemodynamic and clinical importance of these changes in patients with AS have been largely underappreciated in the past.

Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy is characterized by elevated oxidative stress and chronic inflammation in the kidneys. A class of proteins called sirtuins is well-known to be important for a number of cellular functions, such as metabolism, stress tolerance, and ageing. Among them, SIRT1 is associated with the progression of diabetic nephropathy, a dangerous kidney-related consequence of diabetes mellitus.

Background: Deficient DNA repair and excessive DNA damage contribute to neurodegenerative disease. However, the role of DNA damage and repair in spinal cord injury (SCI) is unclear. SCI, a debilitating disruption of the structural and biological network of the spinal cord, is characterized by oxidative stress.

Purpose: The expression of the respiratory events in OSA is influenced by different mechanisms. In particular, REM sleep can highly increase the occurrence of events in a subset of OSA patients, a condition dubbed REM-OSA (often defined as an AHI 2 times higher in REM than NREM sleep). However, a proper characterization of REM-OSA and its pathological sequelae is still inadequate, partly because of limitations in the current definitions.
