The use of a biological cover for in situ control of gaseous sulfide emission from an anaerobic pond was investigated by a laboratory-scale experiment. The biological cover, constituting by a peat bed floating on the wastewater, caused a reduction of the H2S emission rate by 84.6%. The addition of Fe3+ (with FeCl3) and plants (Juncus effusus L.) to the peat bed significantly improved the performance to reach a H2S removal of 95.5%. Despite the fluctuations in the sulfide concentration in the wastewater, the performance of the biological covers remained constant during the entire period of the study. The analysis of the different forms of sulfur accumulated in the peat beds allowed the understanding of the mechanisms involved in H2S removal. The high amount of sulfate demonstrated that the conditions were favorable to the biological oxidation of H2S. The addition of Fe3+ increased the formation of insoluble ferrous monosulfide (FeS) and pyrite (FeS2). The plants seemed to convert sulfate into elemental and organic sulfur.

Spectral dispersion in low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can significantly affect NMR spectral analysis, particularly when studying complex mixtures like metabolic profiling of biological samples. To address signal superposition in these spectra, we employed spectral editing with selective excitation pulses, proving it to be a suitable approach. Optimal control pulses were implemented in low-field NMR and demonstrated their capability to selectively excite and eliminate specific amino acids, such as phenylalanine and taurine, either individually or simultaneously.

Plant-derived oils provide 20%-35% of dietary calories and are a primary source of essential omega-6 (linoleic) and omega-3 (α-linolenic) fatty acids. While traditional breeding has significantly increased yields in key oilseed crops like soybean, sunflower, canola, peanut, and cottonseed, overall gains have plateaued over the past few decades. Oilseed crops also experience substantial yield losses in both prime and marginal agricultural areas due to biotic and abiotic stresses and shifting agro-climates.

VACCIMEL is a therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of four irradiated allogeneic human melanoma cell lines rationally selected to cover a wide range of melanoma tumor-associated antigens (TAA). We previously demonstrated that vaccination in the adjuvant setting prolonged the distant-metastasis-free survival of cutaneous melanoma patients and that T cells reactive to TAA and the patient's private neoantigens increased during treatment. However, immune responses directed to vaccine antigens that may arise from VACCIMEL's somatic mutations and human polymorphisms remain unexplored.

Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining is widely used to stain osteoclasts in histological bone sections. The red dye formed by the conventional TRAP enzymatic reaction using naphthol AS-MX (or AS-BI) phosphate and fast red-violet (or garnet) chromogens is readily soluble in alcohol or xylene and requires air-drying prior to cover slipping or the use of an aqueous mounting medium. However, the use of an aqueous mounting medium makes it difficult to store stained specimens for a long time.
