Published: January 2002

In this paper the Authors describe their own experience in applying informatics at the Surgical Division III of Azienda Policlinico Universitario of Messina. After a discussion about existing hardware (LAN of PC) and daily used software (commercial suite) for managing the clinical reports and correlated data (images, medical prescription, reservations, and so on), their conclusion is that a great development on this way will be possible with extension of the services to all the business network and then to WAN as Internet.

One of the most frequent forms of maternal morbidity following childbirth is postpartum depression. Postpartum depression (PPD), a disabling condition as a major public health concern, has a significant negative impact on the child's emotional, mental as well as intellectual development if left undiagnosed and untreated, which can later have long-term complications. The oxytocin system is an excellent candidate gene system in the maternal context.

Breast cancer (BC) is a highly heterogeneous disease with diverse molecular subtypes, which complicates prognosis and treatment. In this study, we performed a multi-omics clustering analysis using the Cancer Integration via MultIkernel LeaRning (CIMLR) method on a large BC dataset from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to identify key prognostic biomarkers. We identified three genes-, , and -that were significantly associated with poor prognosis in both the TCGA dataset and an additional dataset comprising 146 metastatic BC patients.

Proteins involved in synaptic transmission in normal hearing, acoustic stimulation, and tinnitus were identified using protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. The gene list for tinnitus was compiled from the GeneCards database using the keywords "synaptic transmission" AND "inferior colliculus" AND "tinnitus" (Tin). For comparison, two gene lists were built using the keywords "auditory perception" (AP) and "acoustic stimulation" (AS).

Microvascular invasion (MVI) represents a pivotal independent prognostic factor for the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after surgery. It contributes to early intervention for potentially recurrent HCC to enhance patient outcomes and increase survival rates. Traditionally, the diagnosis of MVI has relied on postoperative pathological analysis, and accurate preoperative detection methodologies are lacking.

Background: Post-infarction ventricular septal rupture (PIVSR) is a rare mechanical complication, characterized by a dismal prognosis. Despite the widespread timely reperfusion and recent advances in management, short-term mortality of PIVSR remains high. The complexity of the hemodynamic profile, confusing evidence for the optimal timing for intervention, and lack of head-to-head trials, all make the management of such a condition very challenging.
