Advanced ectopic pregnancy - clinical management. In case of vaginal bleeding and diffuse abdominal pain you have to include the diagnose of (rare) advanced ectopic pregnancy. Even with ultrasound technique in some of the cases you need further examinations to be sure with your diagnose. Because of the high incidence of maternal morbidity the treatment ist immediate primary laparotomy. In some pregnancies after the 23/24 week there is possibility of a more conservative approach. We describe a case with immediate operative intervention.

Background: In recent years, the emphasis has shifted to understanding the role of N1-methyladenosine (m1A) in tumor progression as little is known about its regulatory effect on mRNA and its role in the metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: We performed methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing of tumor tissues and tumor-adjacent normal tissues from three patients with CRC to determine the m1A profile of mRNA in CRC. The expression of diaphanous-related formin 3 (DIAPH3) and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics of CRC were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and online datasets.

Silica-mediated exacerbation of inflammatory arthritis: A novel murine model.

bioRxiv

January 2025

Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Scripps Research, La Jolla, San Diego, USA.

Objective: The mucosal origin hypothesis in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) posits that inhalant exposures, such as cigarette smoke and crystalline silica (c-silica), trigger immune responses contributing to disease onset. Despite the established risk posed by these exposures, the mechanistic link between inhalants, lung inflammation, and inflammatory arthritis remains poorly understood, partly from the lack of a suitable experimental model. As c-silica accelerates autoimmune phenotypes in lupus models and is a recognized risk factor for several autoimmune diseases, we investigated whether c-silica exposure could induce RA-like inflammatory arthritis in mice.

Objective: The present study was designed to comprehensively analyze the expression profiles of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α), estrogen-related receptor-α (ERRα), estrogen receptor-β (ERβ), interleukin-6 (IL-6), cysteinyl-aspartic acid-specific protease-3 (caspase-3), and cysteinyl-aspartic acid-specific protease-9 (caspase-9) in endometriosis tissues. It also aimed to elucidate the hitherto unclarified role of PGC-1α in the processes of proliferation, apoptosis, and gene expression regulation of human endometrial stromal cells, thereby providing novel insights and identifying potential molecular targets for advancing endometriosis treatment modalities.

Methods: A total of 49 ectopic endometrial tissue samples and 50 normal endometrial tissue samples were meticulously collected from patients who underwent gynecological surgeries in the People's Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Fuzhou, China, between January 2022 and January 2023.

Gastric duplication cysts with mixed hemangioma treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection: A case report and literature review.

Pathol Res Pract

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao University, Qingdao, Shandong 262000, PR China. Electronic address:

Gastric duplication cysts (GDCs) are rare cystic neoplasms that are often difficult to distinguish from other entities. Accurate diagnosis of cysts before resection is difficult even using the most advanced imaging techniques. We present a case of a gastric duplication cyst in a 17-year-old female, presenting with discomfort in the upper abdomen.

ENDOTHELIAL PROX1 INDUCES BLOOD-BRAIN BARRIER DISRUPTION IN THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM.

bioRxiv

October 2024

Laboratory of Stem Cell and Neuro-Vascular Biology, Cell and Developmental Biology Center, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA.

The central nervous system (CNS) parenchyma has conventionally been believed to lack lymphatic vasculature, likely due to a non-permissive microenvironment that hinders the formation and growth of lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs). Recent findings of ectopic expression of LEC markers including Prospero Homeobox 1 (PROX1), a master regulator of lymphatic differentiation, and the vascular permeability marker Plasmalemma Vesicle Associated Protein (PLVAP), in certain glioblastoma and brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), has prompted investigation into their roles in cerebrovascular malformations, tumor environments, and blood-brain barrier (BBB) abnormalities. To explore the relationship between ectopic LEC properties and BBB disruption, we utilized endothelial cell-specific overexpression mutants.
