Histone H3 lysine 9 methylation has been proposed to provide a major "switch" for the functional organization of chromosomal subdomains. Here, we show that the murine Suv39h histone methyltransferases (HMTases) govern H3-K9 methylation at pericentric heterochromatin and induce a specialized histone methylation pattern that differs from the broad H3-K9 methylation present at other chromosomal regions. Suv39h-deficient mice display severely impaired viability and chromosomal instabilities that are associated with an increased tumor risk and perturbed chromosome interactions during male meiosis. These in vivo data assign a crucial role for pericentric H3-K9 methylation in protecting genome stability, and define the Suv39h HMTases as important epigenetic regulators for mammalian development.

The SUMO-targeted ubiquitin ligase (STUbL) family is involved in multiple cellular processes via a wide range of mechanisms to maintain genome stability. One of the evolutionarily conserved functions of STUbL is to promote changes in the nuclear positioning of DNA lesions, targeting them to the nuclear periphery. In Schizossacharomyces pombe, the STUbL Slx8 is a regulator of SUMOylated proteins and promotes replication stress tolerance by counteracting the toxicity of SUMO conjugates.

Pericentric heterochromatin is a critical component of chromosomes marked by histone H3 K9 (H3K9) methylation. However, what recruits H3K9-specific histone methyltransferases to pericentric regions in vertebrates remains unclear, as does why pericentric regions in different species share the same H3K9 methylation mark despite lacking highly conserved DNA sequences. Here we show that zinc-finger proteins ZNF512 and ZNF512B specifically localize at pericentric regions through direct DNA binding.

Various models have been established to culture whole follicles of the Preantral stage; however, the process remains inefficient and is an ongoing challenge formation. It is reported that oocyte-cumulus-granulosa complexes (OCGCs) isolated from Early Antral follicles (EAFs) undergo in vitro growth (IVG) and acquire meiotic competence in some animals. However, IVG for the oocyte-granulosa complexes (OGCs) from Preantral Follicles (PAFs) has not been firmly established.

Target spot caused by is a problematic disease in tropical and subtropical soybean () growing regions. Although resistant soybean genotypes have been identified, the genetic mechanisms underlying target spot resistance has not yet been studied. To address this knowledge gap, this is the first genome-wide association study (GWAS) conducted using the SoySNP50K array on a panel of 246 soybean accessions, aiming to unravel the genetic architecture of resistance.

Epigenetic changes induced by environmental factors are increasingly relevant in cardiovascular diseases. The most frequent molecular component in cardiac hypertrophy is the reactivation of fetal genes caused by various pathologies, including obesity, arterial hypertension, aortic valve stenosis, and congenital causes. Despite the multiple investigations performed to achieve information about the molecular components of this pathology, its influence on therapeutic strategies is relatively scarce.
