The objective of this double-blind clinical study was to compare the tooth whitening efficacy (stain removal) of a new commercially available tooth whitening dentifrice (Colgate Total Plus Whitening Toothpaste) containing 0.2% triclosan and 3.0% PVM/MA copolymer in a 0.243% sodium fluoride/high cleaning silica base, with that of two commercially available dentifrices, Crest Multi-Care Advanced Cleaning Toothpaste and Colgate Winterfresh Gel Fluoride Toothpaste. Following a baseline examination to assess extrinsic tooth stain, qualifying adult male and female subjects were randomized into three treatment groups which were balanced for gender, age and level of extrinsic tooth stain. Subjects were asked to brush their teeth twice (morning and evening) for one minute with their assigned dentifrice using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Examinations for extrinsic tooth stain were repeated after six weeks' use of the study dentifrices. One-hundred and twenty-three (123) subjects complied with the protocol and completed the study. At the six-week examination, subjects assigned to the Colgate Total Plus Whitening Toothpaste treatment group exhibited statistically significant reductions in extrinsic tooth stain area and extrinsic tooth stain intensity relative to those subjects assigned to the Crest Multi-Care Advanced Cleaning Toothpaste and the Colgate Winterfresh Gel Fluoride Toothpaste.

Introduction: This in vitro study assessed how shade changes induced by endodontic medicaments affect the transmission of single and multiples wavelengths of infrared light through enamel and dentin.
Methods: Eighteen extracted single-rooted permanent teeth were prepared, removing all extrinsic staining, and cementum. Tooth slices were treated for 4 weeks with UltraCal™ XS, Ledermix™, or were untreated controls.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate extrinsic tooth stain removal and whitening efficacy of two experimental dentifrices containing (i) 5% sodium tripolyphosphate (STP)/1% micronized alumina or (ii) 5% STP/1% micronized alumina with abrasive silica (ED2) compared to a regular fluoride dentifrice (RFD) following 8 weeks of use.
Materials And Methods: This was a single-center, randomized, controlled, blind, three-arm, stratified, parallel-group study. Eligible participants underwent clinical assessment of stain on the facial/lingual surfaces of maxillary and mandibular teeth using the modified Lobene stain index (MLSI), and shade of the facial surfaces of the central and lateral maxillary incisors using the VITA Bleachedguide 3D-Master (VITA) shade guide.

Objectives: To synthesize experimental toothpastes (ETs) containing four different polymers (sodium linear polyphosphate [LPP]; chitosan [CHI]; sodium hexametaphosphate [HMP]; and sodium pyrophosphate [PP]) and test their ability in preventing and removing tooth extrinsic stain.
Methods: The tooth specimens were randomly assigned into six groups (n = 10): control (artificial saliva), regular toothpaste (RT-no whitening claim), ET 5% LPP, ET 0.5% CHI, ET 5% HMP, and ET 5% PP.

Introduction: Childhood early oral ageing syndrome (CEOAS) is a condition involving oral abnormalities resulting from systemic diseases of different origins that are related to the current lifestyle of the paediatric population. Enamel defects associated with intrinsic and extrinsic factors promote the early loss of tooth structure at an accelerated pace, with negative impacts on function, aesthetics and quality of life. The aim of the study is to identify the prevalence of early tooth wear in childhood and its severity using the CEOAS index, which is a tool for the diagnosis of the condition and for epidemiological surveys, involving the investigation of abnormalities of the oral cavity in the paediatric population and possible factors associated with the severity of the condition.

Introduction And Aims: We aimed to investigate the efficacy of air-polishing in restoring the original tooth colour of standardised tobacco-stained tooth specimens.
Methods: Seventy-two specimens consisting of half dentine and half enamel were daily exposed to the smoke of five cigarettes in an automated smoking chamber. Four repetitions of a 14-day smoking cycle were performed.
