Objective: Distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) is a tool for an objective examination of the cochlea function. While the clinical application of DPOEA test is in progress, the measurements vary depending on the stimulus conditions. We aimed to determine the most appropriate stimulus level in the clinical application of DPOAE test.
Methods: Ninety-seven normal hearing ears and 80 hearing-impaired ears (total 177) were subjected to this study. Two levels of stimulations (L1 and L2) were applied as follows: L1 = L2 = 70 dB; L1 = L2 = 60 dB and L1 = 60/L2 = 50 dB, and DP level was measured at each stimulation, and compared with hearing level.
Results: DP level was highest at L1 = L2 = 70 dB. Normal hearing ears and hearing-impaired ears were well differentiated at L1 = L2 = 60 dB.
Conclusion: In clinical application of DPOAE test, DP levels should be measured at the stimulus level most appropriate for the purposes.

Exposure therapy is an efficacious treatment for anxiety-related disorders. Yet, fear often returns after treatment. Occasional reinforcement, in which the feared stimulus is intermittently presented during extinction, increases safety learning and slows fear renewal in conditioning paradigms and analogue samples, but no studies to date have examined this strategy in clinical samples.

Economic and labour policies have a considerable influence on health and well-being through direct financial impacts, and by shaping social and physical environments. Strong economies are important for public health investment and employment, yet the rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to reshape economies, presenting challenges beyond mere temporary market disruption. Generative AI can perform non-routine cognitive tasks, previously unattainable though traditional automation, creating new efficiencies.

The organophosphorus pesticide chlormephos was tested for its potential peripheral neurotoxicity by analyzing the diphasic compound action potential (CAP) of sciatic nerves isolated from adult mice chronically exposed to a sub-lethal dose of this pesticide, compared with control age-matched animals being only exposed to the vehicle. No significant modification was detected between chlormephos-exposed and control groups in their nerve responsiveness to stimulus. Furthermore, similar values of CAP kinetic variables were obtained from the two mouse groups.

Perceptual adaptation has been widely used to infer the existence of numerosity detectors, enabling animals to quickly estimate the number of objects in a scene. Here, we investigated, in humans, whether numerosity adaptation is influenced by stimulus feature changes as previous research suggested that adaptation is reduced when the colour of adapting and test stimuli did not match. We tested whether such adaptation reduction is due to unspecific novelty effects or changes of stimuli identity.

Plants evolved several strategies to cope with the ever-changing environment. One example of this is given by seed germination, which must occur when environmental conditions are suitable for plant life. In the model system Arabidopsis thaliana seed germination is induced by light; however in nature, seeds of several plant species can germinate regardless of this stimulus.
