Design, synthesis, and anti-liver fibrosis activity of novel non-steroidal vitamin D receptor agonists based on open-ring steroid scaffold.

Eur J Med Chem

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Drug Discovery for Metabolic Diseases, Center of Advanced Pharmaceuticals and Biomaterials, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, 211198, PR China. Electronic address:

Vitamin D receptor (VDR) has emerged as a crucial target for the treatment of hepatic fibrosis, a condition characterized by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) components leading to impaired liver function. Activation of VDR has been shown to inhibit the transformation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which play a key role in the development of liver fibrosis, thus reducing ECM production. In this study, a series of 37 non-steroidal VDR agonists with novel scaffold were designed and synthesized utilizing the scaffold hopping strategy.

Single-Probe-Based Sensor Array for Fingerprint Recognition of Trivalent Metal Ions and Application in Water Identification.

August 2024

Key Laboratory of Applied Surface and Colloid Chemistry of Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an 710119, People's Republic of China.

Abnormal concentration levels of trivalent metal ions (M) might hinder their natural biological activities in physiological processes and cause severe health hazards. Herein, a dual-chromophore probe (RhB-TPE) composed of rhodamine and tetraphenylethene (TPE) units was synthesized and explored for discriminating M ions. It exhibited special aggregation and AIE properties in aqueous media.

Double roughness structure mimicking the surface of a lotus leaf was prepared using a newly synthesized diarylethene having a six-membered perfluorocyclohexene ring. The cubic-shaped crystals of the open-ring isomer, with sizes of approximately 7 μm, appeared immediately following solution casting. Upon UV irradiation, each cubic crystal was covered with needle-shaped crystals of the closed-ring isomer to form double roughness structures within 1 h.

A rhodamine coumarin-derived fluorescence probe that selectively detects Fe and measures radiation doses.

Anal Methods

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Radiation Medicine and Protection, Collaborative Innovation Center of Radiological Medicine of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions, School for Radiological and Interdisciplinary Sciences (RAD-X), Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

We synthesized a fluorescence ratiometric probe by combining coumarin and rhodamine B with ethylenediamine to sense Fe and measure ionizing radiation doses. The presence of Fe caused rhodamine to transition from a closed helical structure to an open-ring structure. Additionally, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) occurred between coumarin and rhodamine B.

A Homochiral Fulgide Organic Ferroelectric Crystal with Photoinduced Molecular Orbital Breaking.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2023

College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Gannan Normal University, Ganzhou, 341000, P. R. China.

Thermally triggered spatial symmetry breaking in traditional ferroelectrics has been extensively studied for manipulation of the ferroelectricity. However, photoinduced molecular orbital breaking, which is promising for optical control of ferroelectric polarization, has been rarely explored. Herein, for the first time, we synthesized a homochiral fulgide organic ferroelectric crystal (E)-(R)-3-methyl-3-cyclohexylidene-4-(diphenylmethylene)dihydro-2,5-furandione (1), which exhibits both ferroelectricity and photoisomerization.
