A synthesis of trilobin, a new stereochemical varient of the adjacent bis-tetrahydrofuran subgroup of the Annonaceous acetogenins, is described. The synthesis involves three stereochemically defining carbon-carbon bond-forming steps. The first of these introduces the C23-C24 stereocenters and the left side chain by means of an S(E)2' addition of the nonracemic 11-carbon gamma-oxygenated allylic indium reagent derived from the alpha-oxygenated allylic stannane 4 to a C24-C16 core aldehyde 3. The second develops the C15-C16 stereocenters and a segment of the right chain through BF(3)-promoted S(E)2' addition of the nonracemic 6-carbon gamma-oxygenated allylic stannane 11 to the C16-C34 aldehyde 10. The third employs the addition of the dialkylzinc reagent 17 to the C10-C34 aldehyde 15 in the presence of a chiral bis-sulfonamide catalyst to establish the C10 stereocenter while adding the C1-C9 residue of the right chain. The C36 stereocenter and the butenolide are appended through condensation of the C1-C34 ester with the protected (S)-lactaldehyde 23.

Background: Social and emotional development are important aspects of young children's well-being but can be difficult to assess during the first years of life. The Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2) is a parent-rated assessment tool for child socioemotional development between 1 and 72 months of age. In this study, we examined the psychometric properties of this instrument in 18-month-old Swedish children.

A new analytical technique for detection of organic compounds using inductively coupled plasma-tandem mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS) is described. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were introduced into the collision/reaction cell (CRC), instead of through the ICP ion source, and the molecules were ionised through an ion reaction, induced by collision with the primary ions (Ar) produced in the ICP. The ionisation characteristics of this new approach were investigated by mass spectrometric analysis of eight VOCs (, benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, methyl butyrate, ethyl butyrate, pentyl acetate, pyridine, and 2-methylfuran).

Selenium-enhanced arsenic uptake by As-hyperaccumulators Pteris vittata and Pteris cretica is known, but how it impacts antimony (Sb) uptake and associated mechanisms are unclear. Here, we investigated the effects of 2.5 μM selenate (Se) on Sb uptake by two plants after growing for 10 days under hydroponics containing 10 or 50 μM antimonate (SbV) (Sb or Sb).

We have developed a new method for measuring mass dependent Si isotope fractionation critical mixture double-spiking. Samples need to be spiked before column chemistry to guarantee full equilibrium between the sample and double-spike (Si-Si spike). An iterative addition of the double-spike to the sample, usually 2-4 times, is needed to generate a solution very close to the critically spiked mixture.

The present study aimed to optimize the combined effect of dietary selenium (SE) and iodine (ID) on the productive and reproductive performance and antioxidant capacity of Longyuan breeding ducks. A total of 288 Longyan duck breeders aged 20 wk were randomly assigned to four groups with six replicates (n = 72 ducks/group; 12 ducks/replicate). A 2 × 2 factorial arrangement experiment was performed and included 2 supplementation levels of each SE and ID for 200 days of the experimental period.
