The effect of zinc iodide on the catalytic, enantioselective cyclopropanation of allylic alcohols is examined with bis(iodomethyl)zinc as the reagent and bis-methanesulfonamide 7 as the catalyst. Significant rate enhancement was observed when 1 equiv of zinc iodide was present, but more importantly, the enantiomeric excess of the product cyclopropane increased from 80% to 89% for the substrate cinnamyl alcohol. Reaction studies and spectroscopic investigations show that this remarkable influence is the result of reagent modification via a Schlenk equilibrium that produces the more reactive and selective species (iodomethyl)zinc iodide.

Polymers have been used as additives in the liquid electrolytes typically used for secondary batteries that utilize metals as anode. Such additives are conventionally argued to improve long-term anode performance by suppressing morphological and hydrodynamic instabilities thought to be responsible for out-of-plane and dendritic metal deposition during battery charging. More recent studies have reported that the polymer additives provide even more fundamental mechanisms for stabilizing metal electrodeposition through their ability to regulate metal electrodeposit crystallography and, thereby, morphology.

Chronic inflammatory lung diseases are characterized by disease-specific extracellular matrix accumulation resulting from an imbalance of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors. Zinc is essential for the function of MMPs, and zinc deficiency has been associated with enhanced tissue remodeling. This study assessed if zinc iodide (ZnI) supplementation through dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) modifies the action of MMPs in isolated human lung fibroblasts.

Aqueous zinc-iodine batteries are considered to be one of the most promising devices for future electrical energy storage due to their low cost, high safety, high theoretical specific capacity, and multivalent properties. However, the shuttle effect currently faced by zinc-iodine batteries causes the loss of cathode active material and corrosion of the zinc anodes, limiting the large-scale application of zinc-iodine batteries. In this paper, the electrochemical processes of iodine conversion and the zinc anode, as well as the induced mechanism of the shuttle effect, are introduced from the basic configuration of the aqueous zinc-iodine battery.

The realization of high energy is of great importance to unlock the practical potential of zinc-iodine batteries. However, significant challenges, such as low iodine loading (mostly less than 50 wt%), restricted iodine reutilization, and severe structural pulverization during cycling, compromise its intrinsic features. This study introduces an optimized, fully zincified zinc iodide loaded onto a hierarchical carbon scaffold with high active component loading and content (82 wt%) to prepare a thick cathode for enabling high-energy Zn-I batteries.

Copper phosphide (CuP) nanocrystals are promising materials for nanoplasmonics due to their substoichiometric composition, enabling the generation and stabilization of excess delocalized holes and leading to localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption in the near-IR. We present three Cu-coupled redox chemistries that allow postsynthetic modulation of the delocalized hole concentrations and corresponding LSPR absorption in colloidal CuP nanocrystals. Changes in the structural, optical, and compositional properties are evaluated by powder X-ray diffraction, electronic absorption spectroscopy, P magic-angle spinning solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and elemental analysis.
