Viral infections during pregnancy represent a major threat to maternal, fetal, and neonatal health outcome, with a high risk of vertical transmission. It is therefore crucial to understand the mechanisms underlying the interaction between viruses and placenta, which ensures communication between maternal and fetal compartments throughout pregnancy. Human placental models, both in vitro and ex vivo, enable to dissect in detail these interactions.

Objective: Growing evidence indicate that prenatal intermittent hypoxia (PIH) exposure can have an impact on the critical brain nerve development of the fetus, resulting in cognitive deficits in the offspring mice. Resveratrol, recognized for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities, has potential to ameliorate synaptic dysfunction, which in turn may contribute to its positive influence on cognitive impairment. Nevertheless, the precise manner in which resveratrol mitigates cognitive deficits stemming from maternal hypoxia remains to be fully elucidated, including the specific mechanisms at play.

Background: In 2018, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issued multiple recommendations to optimize care within the first 12 weeks postpartum. We explored the extent to which clinicians follow ACOG's recommendations at the first postpartum visit and identified factors associated with overall adherence to clinical recommendations.
Methods: Between September 2023 and February 2024, we collected data from an online survey about the care practices of 174 obstetric clinicians practicing in California.

Micro(nano)plastics (MNPs), are emerging environmental pollutants that have garnered widespread attention. Epidemiological and animal studies have shown that MNPs exposure during pregnancy is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and miscarriage. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.

BackgroundThe British HIV Association recommends the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in all pregnant women living with HIV to protect against mother to child transmission. ART may cause side effects including anaemia, macrocytosis and neutropenia.MethodsIn a retrospective study conducted in a District General Hospital in the United Kingdom in 2024 using a historical cohort, we compared neonatal haemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), reticulocyte, neutrophil and lymphocyte counts, alanine aminotransferase and bilirubin levels on the first day of life and at 6 weeks of life in children born to mothers who at delivery were on azidothymidine (AZT) containing ART regimes with newborns not exposed to those regimes.
