Data Integration of Health Financing Systems as a Critical Enabler for Objective-Oriented Health System Reform: A Scoping Review from India.

Health Syst Reform

December 2024

Department of Health and Welfare Kerala, State Health Agency, State Health Authority, Thiruvanthappuram, Kerala, India.

Health financing fragmentation poses a challenge to reforms intended to address system-wide objectives vis-à-vis universal health coverage (UHC). India's experience with publicly subsidized health insurance schemes (PSHIs), such as Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and its state adaptations, testify to the challenges inherent in effecting objective-oriented health systems reforms, particularly owing to wide variation in programmatic and operational design. Recent efforts to defragment PSHIs under the aegis of a new government initiative called Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) using, inter alia, a unified information and communication technology (ICT) interface provide important policy lessons.

Associations between structural neuroimaging markers of Alzheimer's risk and scam susceptibility.

Brain Imaging Behav

December 2024

Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center, Rush University Medical Center, 1750 W Harrison Street, Suite 1000, Chicago, IL, 60612, USA.

Older adults with greater scam susceptibility are at greater risk for mild cognitive impairment and incident Alzheimer's dementia, regardless of baseline cognition. This, combined with documented associations between scam susceptibility and beta amyloid at death suggests that scam susceptibility may be an earlier indicator of pathological aging than cognition. Little, however, is known about whether in vivo neuroimaging markers of early-stage risk for Alzheimer's dementia are also related to scam susceptibility; such knowledge will inform upon the associations of neurodegenerative processes with scam susceptibility and may help identify vulnerable individuals.

Maladaptive behaviors during a disaster refer to actions that do not benefit the individual or society. Quarantelli highlights several maladaptive behaviors myths associated with disasters: widespread antisocial behavior, passivity, role conflict or abandonment, and sudden widespread mental health breakdowns (1). Despite early work reporting these myths, the common perception is that maladaptive behaviors such as rioting, looting, panic, and criminal conduct are prevalent in the wake of disasters.

Defining the Functional Sensitivity for the Siemens Atellica Calcitonin Assay: Insight From a Single-Center Study.

Endocr Pract

November 2024

Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Department of Internal Medicine, Wexner Medical Center, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio; Department of Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, Comprehensive Cancer Center, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Electronic address:

Background: Detectable, and especially rising postthyroidectomy serum calcitonin and carcinoembryonic antigen levels, as per American Thyroid Association guidelines, indicate potential disease presence, requiring frequent calcitonin measurement or imaging for early detection of persistent or recurrent medullary thyroid carcinoma. Thus, defining the clinical cutoff value of detection of calcitonin assays relative to imaging and clinical status is crucial for patient care. This study aimed to evaluate postoperative calcitonin levels using the new Siemens Atellica assay system to determine the most appropriate levels for clinical decision-making.

From the beginnings of Silk Road in 2011, anonymous online marketplaces have continued to grow despite the best efforts of law enforcement. While these ever-present marketplaces remain flooded with illicit drugs and related paraphernalia, the sale and distribution of fraudulent identity documents remains a persistent problem, with these items consistently appearing for sale on both the open and dark web. While fraudulent Australian documents are some of the most popular products for sale, there is still much that is unknown about the Australian criminal market and its place within anonymous online marketplaces.
