Prophylaxis based on antiretrovirals, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis to HIV (PrEP), has the potential to protect the populations most vulnerable to infection, which renews optimism for controlling the HIV epidemic. Against this backdrop, the aim of this article is to analyze the perceptions, negotiations and tensions surrounding the use of PrEP by men who have sex with men (MSM). This is a qualitative cross-section of a multicenter study, analyzing semi-structured interviews with 18 users of specialized HIV/AIDS healthcare facilities in the city of São Paulo/SP.

The fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family comprises 15 paracrine-acting and 3 endocrine-acting polypeptides, which govern a multitude of processes in human development, metabolism and tissue homeostasis. Therapeutic endocrine FGFs have recently advanced in clinical trials, with FGF19 and FGF21-based therapies on the cusp of approval for the treatment of primary sclerosing cholangitis and metabolic syndrome-associated steatohepatitis, respectively. By contrast, while paracrine FGFs were once thought to be promising drug candidates for wound healing, burns, tissue repair and ischaemic ailments based on their potent mitogenic and angiogenic properties, repeated failures in clinical trials have led to the widespread perception that the development of paracrine FGF-based drugs is not feasible.

Several published comparative investigations have reported that chest x-ray images from PTB with DM are considered atypical due to their frequent involvement of the lower lung field (LLF). This study aimed to investigate the frequency of lower lung field tuberculosis (LLF-TB) in DM and the risk factor of DM for the development of TB.

Microneedle(MN)-based drug delivery is one of the potential approaches to overcome the limitations of oral and hypodermic needle delivery. An in silico model has been developed for hollow microneedle (HMN)-based drug delivery in the skin and its subsequent absorption in the blood and tissue compartments in the presence of interstitial flow. The drug's reversible specific saturable binding to its receptors and the kinetics of reversible absorption across the blood and tissue compartments have been taken into account.
