Several modified nucleoside 5'-triphosphates were synthesized containing adenine-mimicking pyrimidine derivatives as an aglycone. The study of substrate properties of these compounds towards DNA-synthesizing enzymes showed their ability of being incorporated into the growing DNA chain in place of dATP.

In order to provide long-term anti-corrosion properties of the coatings on the substrate, a microcapsule self-healing coatings system was designed in this paper. Microcapsules were synthesized with ethyl cellulose and octadecyl amine, which were added to epoxy resin to prepare self-healing coatings. The shape of microcapsules was spherical, the average particle size of microcapsules was about 100-120 μm, and the average thickness of microcapsules was 4.

ConspectusThe emergence of two-dimensional (2D) materials, such as graphene, transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), has sparked significant interest due to their unique physicochemical, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. Furthermore, their atomically thin nature enables mechanical flexibility, high sensitivity, and simple integration onto flexible substrates, such as paper and plastic. The surface chemistry of a nanomaterial determines many of its properties, such as its chemical and catalytic activity.

Hydrogel indicators promise to monitor food spoilage, but their poor mechanics can cause defects in transport. Herein, a novel zwitterionic double network (DN) hydrogel was developed by polymerizing arylamide and sulfobetaine methacrylate in an alginate-Ca system. This hydrogel exhibited enhanced mechanical properties, including a maximum 2087 % breaking elongation and 135 ± 12 kJ/m toughness, significantly outperforming the current zwitterionic DN hydrogels, which typically exhibit less than 1800 % breaking elongation, capable of supporting 150 g-136 times its own weight.

Oleaginous yeasts offer a promising sustainable alternative for producing edible lipids, potentially replacing animal and unsustainable plant fats and oils. In this study, we screened 11 oleaginous yeast species for their lipid profiles and identified Apiotrichum brassicae as the most promising candidate due to its versatility across different growth media. A.

Background: Thrombin prefers substrates carrying Arg at the site of cleavage (P1) because of the presence of D189 in the primary specificity (S1) pocket but can also cleave substrates carrying Phe at P1. The structural basis of this property is unknown.
Objective: Solve the X-ray structure of thrombin bound to a ligand carrying Phe at P1 and investigate the effects of replacing D189.
