The distribution of tuberculosis cannot be described correctly until after the discovery of the tubercle bacillus but typical skeletal tuberculosis has been found and lung diseases with symptoms as consumption (phtisis) have been described long before our calendar from almost all continents. - In our country it has probably existed a long time but became a widespread disease with increasing mortality the last 2 - 300 years with a maximum mortality during the second half of the last century. Attempts to cure the disease with many different sorts of treatment, herbs, woman's milk. living in a cow-house etc., were predominent. also staying in different health bringing milieus occurred, partly reminding of later practised sanatorium treatment. After half a century's attempts in Sweden to cure tuberculosis with sanatorium treatment and collaps therapy, definite possibilities to cure the disease radically came with chemotherapy after 1945-1950. Where this therapy is available, e.g. from economic point of view, the cure is successful to practically a 100%, if not bacterial resistance or deficient immunity prevent the effect.

Background: The treatment effects are heterogenous across patients due to the differences in their microbiomes, which in turn implies that we can enhance the treatment effect by manipulating the patient's microbiome profile. Then, the coadministration of microbiome-based dietary supplements/therapeutics along with the primary treatment has been the subject of intensive investigation. However, for this, we first need to comprehend which microbes help (or prevent) the treatment to cure the patient's disease.

In Japan, cervical artificial disc replacement was approved by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency in December 2017, and two products, Mobi-C by Zimmer Biomet and Prestige LP by Medtronic, are on the market. Cervical artificial disc replacement preserves cervical motion; however, the device must be place carefully on the midline to take full advantage of its features. In addition, a reliable foraminotomy is required to cure or prevent radiculopathy due to residual foraminal stenosis.

HIV-1 envelope broadly neutralizing antibodies represent a promising component of HIV-1 cure strategies. To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of combination monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) in a rigorous nonhuman primate model, we tested different combinations of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) neutralizing mAbs in SIVmac251-infected rhesus macaques. Antiretroviral therapy-suppressed animals received anti-SIV mAbs targeting multiple Env epitopes spanning analytical treatment interruption (ATI) in 3 groups (n = 7 each): i) no mAb; ii) 4-mAb combination; and iii) 2-mAb combination.

Introduction: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) are major global health challenges, with high morbidity and mortality rates. The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria may diminish the effectiveness of standard empirical antibiotics, highlighting the need for broader-spectrum agents that target also MDR organisms.

Areas Covered: This review summarizes findings from a PubMed search on the use of ceftobiprole in CAP and HAP.
