Who was actually the director of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at Balassa Street, for a long time also referred to as the Moravcsik Clinic? A polymath, a genius, or rather a knight of fortune who wanted to draw attention to himself by building a clinic for himself? We looked into this on the occasion of his death anniversary. How did he get from the head of the department to the founding of the Psychiatry and Neurology Clinic? He dreamed up every corner of the Department, which was the most impressive and patient-friendly clinic of its time even in European terms. The building was not only used for the recovery of patients, but also for the continuous medical training of doctors.

The Hungarian baron Roland Eötvös (Eötvös Loránd, 1848-1919) lived in the difficult period between two revolutions in Hungary, but nevertheless he achieved revolutionary results in two fields of science: capillarity (1875-1886) and gravity (after 1886). This paper describes his famous capillary equation published in 1886 in the world-language of the time (German) and in one of the most famous scientific journals of the time (Annalen der Physik und Chemie). In his paper he showed a simple equation for the temperature dependence of surface tension of one-component liquids and more importantly he showed that this quantity approaches zero as temperature tends towards the critical temperature.

Through analyzing a course of public lectures given by George Howard Darwin (1845-1912) for the Lowell Institute in Boston and the monograph he based on these, (1898), this article connects the important practices of public lecturing and book production-two aspects of knowledge dissemination that tend to be studied as separate entities.

In many bird species loud broadcast calls serve as aggressive signals with a large effective radius, whereas soft calls may indicate aggression at a closer distance, and are often directed at a nearby conspecific individual. Male common cuckoos (Cuculus canorus) are famous for their simple cu-coo calls, which are long-range broadcast calls, uttered in long sequences during the breeding season. Cuckoos also produce soft calls, including a single gowk (wah), a series of gowks (gowk series), or a harsher single variant, the guo call.
