Published: December 2001

Simple, specific and rapid reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic methods to separate and determine potential impurities of anthelmintic drugs viz., mebendazole, fenbendazole and albendazole are reported. These methods afforded efficient separation, good resolution and identification of all the impurities examined. The methods were successfully applied not only for quality assurance, but also process development of the select anthelmintic drugs.

Background & objectives Alkaptonuria (AKU) is an autosomal recessive disease wherein biallelic pathogenic variants in the homogentisate 1,2- dioxygenase (HGD) gene encoding the enzyme homogentisate 1,2 dioxygenase cause high levels of homogentisic acid (HGA) to circulate within the body leading to its deposition in connective tissues and excretion in urine. A homozygous splice donor variant (c.87+1G>A) has been identified to be the founder variant causing alkaptonuria among Narikuravars, a group of gypsies settled in Tamil Nadu.

Background: To compare the impact of two different lipid emulsions, specifically a soybean oil-based emulsion and a multiple oil emulsion (soybean oil, medium-chain triglycerides, olive oil, and fish oil, SMOF), on serum metabolites of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants using untargeted metabolomics analysis.

Methods: A comparative study was conducted on 25 VLBW infants hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of Hangzhou Women's Hospital in 2023. The infants were divided into the SMOF group (13 cases) and the soybean oil group (12 cases) based on the type of lipid emulsion used during parenteral nutrition.

Object: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a prevalent and currently incurable autoimmune disease. Existing conventional medical treatments are limited in their efficacy, prolonged disease may lead to bone destruction, joint deformity, and loss of related functions, which places a huge burden on RA patients and their families. For millennia, the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), exemplified by the Gui-Zhi-Shao-Yao-Zhi-Mu decoction (GZSYZM), has been demonstrated to offer distinct therapeutic advantages in the management of RA.

Integrating hypoxanthine and K value for reliable and rapid freshness assessment in marine fish.

Food Chem

December 2024

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering, College of Biological Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao 266042, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to explore the relationship between hypoxanthine (Hx) levels and freshness indicators in three kinds of fish samples during storage for 7 days at 4 °C to determine the Hx levels indicating freshness. The total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) was tested using the semi-micro Kjeldahl method, and Hx level and K value were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). During storage, Hx levels, TVBN, and K values increased, and distinct patterns were observed between Hx and TVBN in three fish samples.

Background: Flavonoids are among the most important compounds found in plants, since laboratory studies have shown them to be a daily requirement in human diets due to their various health benefits. Therefore, this study focused on extracting, purifying, and measuring the antioxidant activity of the flavonoid quercetin, which is widely found in plants and possesses a variety of biological activities, from different plant sources.

Methods: The extraction of quercetin was performed using several methods (chemical, physical, and enzymatic) and several extraction solutions (water, ethanol, and chloroform) from several plants (spinach, dill, Onion Skin, , sumac, digalkhasab chemri, and leelwi chemri).
