Background: Viral hepatitis is the major contributor to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Studies indicated that the co-infection of hepatitis C and hepatitis B virus also prompts liver damage progression. Therefore, in the present study, the prevalence of HCV-HBV co-infection and the impact of HCV-HBV co-infection on the progression of liver damage was evaluated amongst the HCV-infected patients in Pakistan.

Sexually transmitted proctitis, a prevalent concern among men who have sex with men (MSM) is frequently caused by a range of pathogens, including herpes simplex virus (HSV), and While HSV-associated proctitis typically presents with visible lesions, cases without external manifestations remain evasive. We report the case of an MSM in his early 30s presenting with dyschezia and perineal discomfort after unprotected anoreceptive intercourse. Despite initial inconspicuous findings, rectal swabs revealed HSV-2 infection.

Background: The morbidity and mortality associated with influenza viruses are a significant public health challenge. Annual vaccination against circulating influenza strains reduces hospitalisations and increases survival rates but requires a yearly redesign of vaccines against prevalent subtypes. The complex genetics of influenza viruses with high antigenic drift create an ongoing challenge in vaccine development to address dynamic influenza epidemiology.

Background: Understanding of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) myeloencephalopathy (EHM) is complicated by disparities among studies.
Objective: Compare clinical findings and outcome in horses involved in 2 recent EHM outbreaks.
Animals: Twenty-five and 10 horses affected during 2 natural EHM outbreaks were admitted to a veterinary teaching hospital (VTH) in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
