Background: Endoscopic surgery in a major cavity in the body requires space for manipulation and presentation of the target organ or site. For coronary artery grafting on the working heart, additional local cardiac wall immobilization is indispensible.
Methods: A passive hydraulic arm was developed to be mounted on the operating table rail. The development focused on the arm's versatility, durability, flexibility in manipulation, and extreme stiffness when in position.
Results: The arm was flexible and easy to manipulate. The tip did not move during tightening, and the arm was stiff once tightened. The arm was successfully used in small and full access beating heart coronary bypass grafting, through the latter(i.e., sternotomy) for multivessel revascularization. Immobilization and presentation were achieved by suction fixation, allowing accurate anastomosis suturing.
Conclusions: The arm enabled effective target site presentation and stabilization on the working heart. According to these observations, it may be useful as a basic tool for endoscopic surgery.

Aim: Total proctocolectomy (TPC) is the standard of care for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and dysplasia not amenable to endoscopic management. However, the risks of an extensive resection may outweigh the benefits in high-risk surgical patients. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess postoperative outcomes between segmental colectomy (SEG) versus TPC in patients with UC.

Background: In pediatric patients, celiac disease (CD) may influence the health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
Aims: The study aimed to assess HRQoL and further characterise the clinical factors associated with reduced HRQoL, in a large multicenter pediatric cohort with CD.
Methods: The disease-specific questionnaire CD Dutch Questionnaire (CDDUX) and the generic questionnaire Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) were used to assess the HRQoL.
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the Pap smear and colposcopy findings in female inmates in a prison unit in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out by analyzing the Pap smear and colposcopy examinations of female inmates in a prison unit. The following socio-demographic data were assessed: age, nationality, level of education, marital status, height, weight, ethnicity, occupation, religion, sexual orientation, and presence of tattoos.
Objective: In laparoscopic surgery, initial entry into the abdomen becomes more risky in patients with a history of abdominal surgery. In such cases, initial entry is usually performed with a Veress needle via Palmer's point (PP). However, it is associated with an increased failure rate, especially in obese patients.

Background: Ascaris lumbricoides is a nematode that parasitizes the human gastrointestinal tract, and it is the cause of the most common helminthic infections worldwide. It predominates in areas of poor sanitation. Early diagnosis of this intestinal infection is pivotal to avoid its severe and lethal complications such as gut obstruction, volvulus, and perforation.
