Surfactant chemistry can affect the phenolic foam (PF) properties by controlling the collision and combination of the created bubbles during foam production. The study was accomplished using two surfactant families, nonionic: polysorbate (Tween80) and anionic: sodium and ammonium lauryl sulfates (SLS30 and ALS70) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES270) to manufacture PF foams. Tween80 and SLS30 resulted in foams with the lowest and highest densities, 20.

Low-Cost Intrinsic Flame-Retardant Bio-Based High Performance Polyurethane and its Application in Triboelectric Nanogenerators.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Institute of Functional Materials, Research Base of Textile Materials for Flexible Electronics and Biomedical Applications (China Textile Engineering Society), Shanghai Key Laboratory of Lightweight Composite, Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Nano Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine, Donghua University, Shanghai, 201620, P. R. China.

Flammability is a significant challenge in polymer-based electronics. In this regard, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have enabled a safe means for harvesting mechanical energy for conversion into electrical energy. However, most existing polymers used for TENGs are sourced from petroleum-based raw materials and are highly flammable, which can further accelerate the spread of fire and harm the ecological environment.

Weakly Solvating Electrolytes for Safe and Fast-Charging Sodium Metal Batteries.

December 2024

Jiangsu Engineering Laboratory of Novel Functional Polymeric Materials, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Advanced Negative Carbon Technologies College of Chemistry, Suzhou Key Laboratory of Soft Material and New Energy, College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Soochow University, Suzhou 215123, China.

Electrolytes for high-performance sodium metal batteries (SMBs) are expected to have high electrode compatibility, low solvation energy, and nonflammability. However, conventional flammable carbonate ester electrolytes show high Na desolvation energy and poor compatibility with sodium metal anodes, leading to slow Faradaic reactions and significant degradation of SMBs. Herein, we report a weakly solvating electrolytes (WSEs) design developed by an ionized ether-induced solvent molecule polarization strategy.

Biomass burning organic aerosol (BBOA) is a major contributor to organic aerosol in the atmosphere. The impacts of BBOA on climate and health depend strongly upon their physicochemical properties, including viscosity and phase behavior (number and types of phases); these properties are not yet fully characterized. We collected BBOA field samples during the 2021 British Columbia wildfire season to constrain the viscosity and phase behavior at a range of relative humidities and compared them to previous studies on BBOA.

Systematic Investigation of indole-based BODIPYs: Synthesis, Dual-State Emission, singlet oxygen formation.

College of Materials and Chemical Engineering, Key Laboratory of Inorganic Nonmetallic Crystalline and Energy Conversion Materials, China Three Gorges University, Yichang, Hubei 443002, China; Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory, Yichang, Hubei 443007, PR China. Electronic address:

Dual-state emission (DSE) dyes that exhibit intense emission in both dilute solution and solid state have obtained significant attention due to their wide applications. Herein, two series of indole-based BODIPYs (IB-BODIPYs) with DSE properties are synthesized through two routes. Those dyes display yellow to red fluorescence emission in dilute solution and red to near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence emission in the solid state.
