The livestock sector holds a prominent position among Brazilian economic sectors; however, beef production is linked to noteworthy environmental impacts, including deforestation and greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions. In alignment with the Paris Agreement, Brazil aims to reduce GHG emissions by 43% by 2030 as part of its NDC commitment. This study aims to elucidate the nexus between beef production and emissions from beef cattle, providing an assessment of predictive GHG emission scenarios for 2030, and an economic valuation of these emissions utilizing the social cost of carbon (SCC).

Trophic interactions in micro-food webs, such as those between nematodes and their bacterial prey, affect nitrogen cycling in soils, potentially changing nitrous oxide (NO) production and consumption. However, how nematode-mediated changes in soil bacterial community composition affect soil NO emissions is largely unknown. Here, microcosm experiments are performed with the bacterial feeding nematode Protorhabditis to explore the potential of nematodes in regulating microbial communities and thereby soil NO emissions.

Globally, agricultural lands are among the top emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs), responsible for over 20% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Climatic conditions, an acute challenge in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where access to mitigation technologies remains limited, have heavily influenced these lands. This study explores GHG contributions from crop production and their devastating and deteriorating impacts on the economy and environment and proposes a sustainable solution.
