A New Method for Compression Testing of Reinforced Polymers.

Polymers (Basel)

October 2024

Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics Department, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, 700050 Iasi, Romania.

Compressive testing of specimens taken from relatively thin composite plates is difficult, especially due to the occurrence of buckling. To prevent buckling, the central portion of the specimens used for the compression test has smaller dimensions, and the specimens can be guided along their entire length. For these reasons, optical methods, such as digital image correlation (DIC), cannot be used for the compression test and strain rosettes cannot be glued onto the samples to determine Poisson's ratio.

The continuous increase in the operating speed of rail vehicles demands higher requirements for passive safety protection and lightweight design. This paper focuses on an energy-absorbing component (circular tubes) at the end of a train. Thin-walled carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) tubes were prepared using the filament winding process.

Two-dimensional bilayer blue phosphorus Dirac-like material: a multi-orbital tight-binding investigation.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

September 2024

Laboratory of Condensed Matter and Interdisciplinary Sciences (LaMCScI), Faculty of Sciences, Mohammed V University of Rabat, BP 1014, RP Rabat, Morocco.

This study presents a theoretical examination of the electronic band structure of AA (AB) stacked bilayer blue phosphorus system within the fifth intralayer (5NN) and second interlayer nearest-neighbor (2NN) multi-orbital tight-binding (MOTB) approach. The variation of energy levels has been investigated through the symmetrical tensile strain of the low-buckled honeycomb lattice. Here, the primary objective is to examine the existence of Dirac electronic features in hexagonal stacked bilayer geometry.

Polymer composite materials are increasingly used in civil aircraft structures. The failure mode and energy-absorption characteristics of polymer composite structures have garnered significant attention from academia and industry. For thin-walled polymer composite C-channels with layups of [0/90], [45/-45], and [45/90/-45/0], low-speed axial compression tests were performed to investigate the failure modes, failure mechanisms, and energy-absorbing characteristics.

Scleral buckle (SB) removal is done for a variety of reasons following treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRD), such as buckle exposure, migration, and infection. The most worrying complication of SB removal is retinal redetachment. We report a unique case of a patient developing strabismus about one month after scleral buckle removal for anterior migration and exposure of the scleral buckle.
