Maternal thyroid function was investigated in 29 pregnant women with goiter and 51 pregnant women without goiter in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey, which is an endemic goiter area. Ten women with goiter and 10 healthy women without goiter were used as controls in the study. In all of the pregnant women, increased concentrations of total and free thyroxine, total and free tri-iodothyronine and thyroxine-binding globulin were found. Serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels showed a decrease in pregnant women without goiter compared with non-pregnant women without goiter.

Dynamic carotid compression arising from a change in patient position is a rare complication of goitre, with the potential for cerebral ischaemia and infarction. In this report, a 37-year-old woman presented with a multi-nodular goitre with clinical features concerning for transient cerebral ischaemia. The anaesthetic management and neurological monitoring used to mitigate the risk of cerebral ischaemia during thyroidectomy is described and the literature surrounding this rare complication is explored.

Background: Both iodine deficiency and iodine excess can harm the thyroid glands during pregnancy. In areas without iodine fortification, the relationship between the water iodine concentration (WIC) and thyroid disease in pregnant women requires further investigation.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between WICs and the prevalence of thyroid disease in pregnant women residing in areas with high WICs without access to iodized salt.

Background/objective: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is an uncommon thyroid cancer (TC), rarely found in hyperfunctioning goiter.
Case Report: We present a case of a woman treated for breast carcinoma (BCA) found to have a benign hyperfunctioning nodular goiter, its likely transformation to MTC, and its treatment. Family history revealed papillary thyroid cancer in her nephew.

Background: Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) aims to detect and prevent iatrogenic damage during thyroid surgery. Mechanisms of injury include traction, heat damage, and nerve transection. Continuous IONM (C-IONM) techniques detect impending damage due to traction and heat related when they are still reversible.
