In order to study the behaviour of traditional and new platelet parameters determined by the ADVIA 120 Hematology System, five hundred samples from reference subjects, divided for sex and age, were processed. Significant variations on the basis of sex and age were found. Reference ranges as 95% confidence limits were therefore calculated for each age class, and platelet parameters proved to have specific variations during lifetime. Moreover, one hundred samples from thrombocytopenic patients were processed by the ADVIA 120 System. When compared with those of reference subjects matched for sex and age, all platelet parameters, except mean platelet component (MPC), showed significant differences.

Background: The aetiology of increased mean platelet volume in dogs is currently uncertain. Our aim was to investigate the aetiology of increased mean platelet volume in dogs with and without thrombocytopenia.
Methods: The database of a teaching hospital was retrospectively searched for dogs with increased mean platelet volume (>14.

Background: Although widely used, the ADVIA 120 hematology analyzer has not been previously validated for determining the differential leukocyte count in goats.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the differential leukocyte counts provided by the ADVIA 120 (A-diff) and the manual method (M-Diff) in goats.
Methods: EDTA blood samples that were analyzed within 4 h of collection were used in the study.

Background: The Sysmex XN-1000V automated hematology analyzer with multispecies software was released in June 2017 for use in research laboratories. Laser light, impedance, fluorescent staining, and fluorescent flow cytometry are used to analyze whole blood for CBC, reticulocyte counts, and WBC counts, including a 5-part differential leukocyte analysis.
Objectives: A side-by-side comparison of the Sysmex XN-1000V with the Siemens ADVIA 120 in analyzing blood from healthy mice and rats will provide insight into the performance of the new analyzer and its capabilities for use in drug development studies.

Although cockatiels are among the most common avian species maintained as companion animals in the United States, information on standard hematologic reference values for this species is limited. The objectives of this study were to establish hematologic reference intervals (RI) for cockatiels, compare methods using both the Natt-Herrick technique (NHT) and the smear-based estimation technique (SBT), explore age and sex differences in the hematologic findings for this species, and produce the first cockatiel RI for fibrinogen concentration and thrombocyte estimate. Healthy cockatiels (60 males and 60 females, 2-11 years old) from a research colony were included in this study.
