Looks at some of the issues raised by patients' involvment in the research process. Uses the example of a service users' advisory group established as part of a diabetes service evaluation in the north of England. Key conclusions were: a precise role for the group should be specified at the outset; genuine user involvement is needed; wide and accurate representation of all relevant groups in society is essential; and, researchers must approach users with open minds with a view to shared decision making rather than control.

Background: There is a global need for synthetic speech development in multiple languages and dialects, as many children who cannot communicate using their natural voice struggle to find synthetic voices on high-technology devices that match their age, social and linguistic background.
Aims: To document multiple stakeholders' perspectives surrounding the quality, acceptability and utility of newly created synthetic speech in three under-resourced South African languages, namely South African English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa.
Methods & Procedures: A mixed methods research design was selected.

The distributed nature of IoT systems and new trends focusing on fog computing enforce the need for reliable communication that ensures the required quality of service for various scenarios. Due to the direct interaction with the real world, failure to deliver the required QoS level can introduce system failures and lead to further negative consequences for users. This paper introduces a prediction-based resource allocation method for Multi-Access Edge Computing-capable networks, aimed at assurance of the required QoS and optimization of resource utilization for various types of IoT use cases featuring adaptability to changes in users' requests.

The rapid deployment and enhanced communication capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have enabled numerous real-time sensing applications. These scenarios often necessitate task offloading and execution under stringent transmission delay constraints, particularly for time-critical applications such as disaster rescue and environmental monitoring. This paper investigates the improvement of MEC-based task offloading services in energy-constrained UAV networks using backscatter communication (BackCom) with non-orthogonal multiple access (BAC-NOMA).

Background: Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and its precursors gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and 1,4-butanediol (BD) have become a significant concern due to the increase in their recreational use and the high risks associated with it (e.g., overdose, addiction, life-threatening withdrawal syndromes).

Background And Objective: Personal wheelchair budgets (PWBs) are offered to everyone in England eligible for a wheelchair provided through the National Health Service (NHS) to support their choice of equipment. The WATCh (Wheelchair outcomes Assessment Tool for Children) and related WATCh-Ad for adults are patient-centred outcome measures (PCOMs) developed to help individual users express their main outcome needs when obtaining a wheelchair and rate their satisfaction with subsequent outcomes after receiving their equipment. Use was explored in a real-world setting, aiming to produce guidance for use alongside the PWB process.
