Comet organics are traced to their origin in interstellar space. Possible sources of comet organics from solar nebula chemistry are briefly discussed. The infrared spectra of interstellar dust are compared with spectra of solar (space) irradiated laboratory organic residues and with meteorites. The spectra compare very favorably. The atomic composition of first generation laboratory organic residues compares favorably with that of comet Halley organics if divided into appropriate "volatile" (less refractory) and "refractory" (more refractory) complex organics.

Transitioning from crude oil to renewable sources of carbon-based chemicals is critical for advancing sustainable development. Lignin, a wood-derived biomacromolecule, holds great potential as a renewable feedstock, but efficient depolymerization and dearomatization methods are required to fully unlock its potential. In this investigation, we present a silver-catalyzed aqueous electrocatalytic method for the selective depolymerization and partial dearomatization of soda lignin under mild, ambient conditions.

Small bodies are capable of delivering essential prerequisites for the development of life, such as volatiles and organics, to the terrestrial planets. For example, empirical evidence suggests that water was delivered to the Earth by hydrated planetesimals from distant regions of the Solar System. Recently, several morphologically inactive near-Earth objects were reported to experience significant nongravitational accelerations inconsistent with radiation-based effects, and possibly explained by volatile-driven outgassing.

Complex organic molecules (COMs) have been detected in a wide range of astrophysical environments, including the interstellar medium, comets and proto-planetary disks. The icy mantles that form on dust grains in these environments are thought to be the chemical nurseries that allow the formation of many of the COMs that have been identified. As such, the adsorption, thermal processing and desorption of COMs from dust grain surfaces are important in understanding the astrochemical networks as a whole.

As precursors of disinfection by-products (DBPs), sediment hydrophobic organic compounds (HPOCs) derived from six reservoirs along the Dongjiang River were chlorinated (Cl-WS) and then fractionated into two polar components (hydrophobic organic compounds (Cl-HOCs) and hydrophilic organic compounds (Cl-HICs)) by solid phase extraction. Based on Caco-2 cell exposure study, the genotoxicity of Cl-WS, Cl-HOCs and Cl-HICs was analyzed by reactive oxygen species (ROS) analysis, comet assay and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase assay. Protective effects of antioxidants (catalase, vitamin C and epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG)) on genotoxicity of the chlorinated samples were investigated.

The challenge with breast cancer is its ongoing high prevalence and difficulties in early detection and access to effective care. A solution lies in creating tailored metal-organic frameworks to encapsulate anticancer drugs, enabling precise and targeted treatment with less adverse effects and improved effectiveness. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and carboplatin (CP)-loaded ZIF-8 were synthesized and characterized using various analytical techniques.
