Tissue regeneration involves dynamic dialogue between and among different cells and their surrounding matrices. Bone regeneration is specifically governed by reciprocity between osteoblasts and osteoclasts within the bone microenvironment. Osteoclast-directed resorption and osteoblast-directed formation of bone are essential to bone remodeling, and the crosstalk between these cells is vital to curating a sequence of events that culminate in the creation of bone tissue.

In 2001, Tang's team discovered a unique type of luminogens with substantial enhanced fluorescence upon aggregation and introduced the concept of "aggregation-induced emission (AIE)". Unlike conventional fluorescent materials, AIE luminogens (AIEgens) emit weak or no fluorescence in solution but become highly fluorescent in aggregated or solid states, due to a mechanism known as restriction of intramolecular motions (RIM). Initially considered a purely inorganic chemical phenomenon, AIE was later applied in biomedicine to improve the sensitivity of immunoassays.

Flat Band Generation Through Interlayer Geometric Frustration in Intercalated Transition Metal Dichalcogenides.

Small

January 2025

Institute for Quantum Computing and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, N2L3G1, Canada.

Electronic flat bands can lead to rich many-body quantum phases by quenching the electron's kinetic energy and enhancing many-body correlation. The reduced bandwidth can be realized by either destructive quantum interference in frustrated lattices, or by generating heavy band folding with avoided band crossing in Moiré superlattices. Here a general approach is proposed to introduce flat bands into widely studied transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) materials by dilute intercalation.

Flexible Moisture-Driven Electricity Generators Based on Heterogeneous Gels and Carbon Nanotubes.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

College of Textile and Clothing Engineering, Soochow University, 199 Ren'ai Road, Suzhou 215123, China.

Recently developed asymmetric heterogeneous moisture-driven electricity generators (AHMEGs) are advantageous for harvesting energy from ubiquitous moisture due to their superior output performance and possible flexibility. However, the regeneration of AHMEG has seldom been explored. Here, we report the fabrication of flexible AHMEGs with regeneration ability simply by asymmetrically incorporating carbon nanotubes into a bilayer-structured gel with heterogeneities of both hygroscopicity and charge.

Digital Health Innovations to Catalyze the Transition to Value-Based Health Care.

JMIR Med Inform

January 2025

Department of Public Administration, Law School, Hangzhou City University, Hangzhou, China.

The health care industry is currently going through a transformation due to the integration of technologies and the shift toward value-based health care (VBHC). This article explores how digital health solutions play a role in advancing VBHC, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities associated with adopting these technologies. Digital health, which includes mobile health, wearable devices, telehealth, and personalized medicine, shows promise in improving diagnostic accuracy, treatment options, and overall health outcomes.
