A computer study of 99 types of mathematical models of teeth armed with stump pin insertions widely used in dentistry (group 1--anchor pins and group 2--cast pin insertions suggested by the authors). Tooth models differed by shape, size, and properties of the design material. The shape and parameters of stump pin insertion were proven to be more significant than the properties of design material. The choice of pin design is determined by the clinical situation, topography and anatomy of tooth crown destruction, and maxillodental disease.

Introduction: Although commonly encountered in clinical practice and considered among the "bread and butter" cases in trauma and orthopedics, intertrochanteric fractures of the femur in certain scenarios pose a challenge to the orthopedic surgeon. Good reduction and stable fixation are a key for good outcome, and certain anatomical limitations such as amputations make that difficult to achieve. Ipsilateral above-knee amputation is a scenario where positioning of the patient on an orthopedic fracture table and reduction of the fracture becomes challenging.

Metallic Lateralized-Offset Glenoid Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty.

JBJS Essent Surg Tech

July 2024

Department of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Schulthess Clinic, Zurich, Switzerland.

Background: Metallic lateralized-offset glenoid reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) for cuff tear arthropathy combines the use of a metallic augmented baseplate with a metaphyseally oriented short stem design that can be applied at a 135° or 145° neck-shaft angle, leading to additional lateralization on the humeral side. Lateralization of the center of rotation decreases the risk of inferior scapular notching and improves external rotation, deltoid wrapping, residual rotator cuff tensioning, and prosthetic stability. Metallic increased-offset RSA (MIO-RSA) achieves lateralization and corrects inclination and retroversion while avoiding graft resorption and other complications of bony increased-offset RSA (BIO-RSA).

Background: Vertical displacement of the residual limb within transtibial prosthetic socket, often known as "pistoning" or downward movement, may lead to skin breakdowns and ulcers. Downward movement is particularly difficult to self-manage for diabetic individuals living with amputation because of diminished sensation in the residual limb from peripheral neuropathy. Therefore, a customizable sensor at the distal end that can alert the users when high-risk downward movement and pistoning occurs is urgently needed.

Objective: Carrying out an objective assessment of the quality of performance of the technique of prosthetics with stump pin tabs of the upper and lower molars.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective assessment of the quality of dental preparation and modeling of root pin inlays was carried out by analyzing CBCT studies using the RadiAnt program. Measurements were carried out and 80 CBCT studies of patients who had tabs in their molars performed in various clinics of the city of Moscow were studied.

Background: A challenge often faced by people with lower extremity amputation is management of prosthetic socket fit due to changes in fluid volume within their residual limb. Prior research suggests that intermittently doffing the prosthetic socket may help stabilize daily residual limb fluid volume.

Methods: To assess the effects of partial doff duration on residual limb fluid volume retention, participants with transtibial amputation were tested by walking on a treadmill in a controlled, laboratory setting under three conditions.
