The Brush Inquiry was conducted in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1926-1942 to longitudinally document the growth and development of healthy children and adults. The Brush population was a heterogenous group with a broad representation of racial and socioeconomic groups. Data collection included radiographs of several parts of the body; motor, mental, and psychological tests; health, nutrition, and prenatal history; body measurements and family history. The early results of the inquiry were used to establish standards for normal childhood growth and development. Today, many of these subjects (88%) are in the age range of 60-80, facilitating the continuity of the inquiry to study early indicators for later health outcomes. This article reviews the origins of the inquiry, characteristics of the population, and the prospects for future research using this cohort. Am. J. Hum. Biol. 12:1-9, 2000. Background: Early childhood caries (ECC) is a highly prevalent oral disease among children worldwide, arising from multiple contributing factors. This study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with ECC in preschool children attending a hospital in Ica, Peru.

Methods: This observational cross-sectional study involved 186 children evaluated during two dental health campaigns organised by a hospital in Ica, Peru.

Caterpillars of the genus Spodoptera are the main pests in soybean and cotton crops and Spodoptera cosmioides causes more severe losses than other caterpillars in these agricultural crops. However, there are few recommended insecticides for controlling this pest. Lambda-cyhalothrin is a pyrethroid used to control a wide spectrum of arthropods including lepidopterans.

Identification of high-risk oral leukoplakia (OLK) using combined Raman spectroscopic analysis of brush biopsy and saliva samples: A proof of concept study.

Centre for Radiation and Environmental Science, FOCAS Research Institute, Technological University Dublin, City Campus, Dublin, Ireland; School of Physics, Clinical and Optometric Sciences, Technological University Dublin, City Campus, Dublin, Ireland.

The gold standard method of diagnosis of oral leukoplakia (OLK) is a tissue biopsy followed by histological examination. Raman spectroscopic studies of cytological brush biopsy and saliva samples have previously been shown to differentiate low (no and mild dysplasia) and high risk (moderate and severe dysplasia) OLKs, discriminant models of cellular samples achieving higher specificity, whereas those based on saliva samples achieved higher sensitivity. The current study combines the spectral data sets of cell and saliva samples in an attempt to improve the overall efficiency of the discriminating models.

Design of an efficient magnetic brush solid acid and its catalytic use in organic reactions.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Natural and Medical Sciences Research Center, University of Nizwa, P.O. Box 33, 616, Birkat Al Mauz, Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman.

In this research, with the Green Chemistry approach, to load more sulfonic acid active sites on catalyst surfaces, a nanocomposite material based on core-shell magnetite coated with vinyl silane and a sulfonated polymeric brush-like structure is designed and synthesized as a new class of efficient solid acid catalysts, referred to as FeO@VS-APS brush solid acid. The synthesized catalyst was comprehensively characterized by a range of instrumental techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, EDX, TGA, and VSM. The activity of the catalyst was evaluated in Biginelli, Strecker, and esterification reactions.

Background: Toothbrushing is the basic step in maintaining oral hygiene and managing caries. The type of toothpaste used, combined with effective toothbrushing techniques, significantly influences oral health outcomes. Information shared on social media platforms can create awareness, generate interest, and influence perceptions regarding toothpaste brands and their benefits.
