Aims: To assess the influence of glistenings on the optical quality of acrylic foldable intraocular lens.

Methods: Several degrees of glistenings in the optic were experimentally created by immersing the lens in water at 37 degrees C for 48 hours and then at 25 degrees C for 24 hours. Optical bench tests were carried out in water including measurements of spectral transmittance with the spectrophotometer, intensity of forward scattering using the integrating sphere photometer, modulation transfer function, and resolving power at various contrasts with and without the veiling glare light source.

Results: Glistenings of 1+ to 4+ degrees were created, among which the 4+ glistenings seemed to be extremely intense and thought to be beyond the range of clinical settings. Clinically feasible level of glistenings, up to 3+, did not adversely influence spectral transmittance, scattering, modulation transfer function, and resolving power at various contrasts. The 4+ glistenings caused mild to moderate deteriorations of the optical quality of the lens.

Conclusion: The optical quality of the acrylic foldable intraocular lens is not significantly affected by the level of glistenings usually seen in the clinical setting.

Background: Modern reconstruction algorithms for computed tomography (CT) can exhibit nonlinear properties, including non-stationarity of noise and contrast dependence of both noise and spatial resolution. Model observers have been recommended as a tool for the task-based assessment of image quality (Samei E et al., Med Phys.

Globally there is a shortage of available donor corneas with only 1 cornea available for every 70 needed. A large limitation to corneal transplant surgery is access to quality donor tissue due to inadequate eye donation services and infrastructure in many countries, compounded by the fact that there are few available long-term storage solutions for effectively preserving spare donor corneas collected in countries with a surplus. In this study, we describe a novel technology termed low-temperature vacuum evaporation (LTVE) that can effectively dry-preserve surplus donor corneal tissue, allowing it to be stored for approximately 5 years, shipped at room temperature, and stored on hospital shelves before rehydration prior to ophthalmic surgery.

Chrysanthemi Flos has been consumed as floral tea for centuries, but the effects of stir-frying on its chemical profile, sensory characteristics, and bioactivity remain unclear. This study used untargeted metabolomics, sensory assessment (E-eye, E-nose, E-tongue), and antioxidant activity evaluation to investigate compositional changes and their effects. In the metabolomics analysis, a total of 101 non-volatile and 306 volatile differential metabolites were identified.

In skull base surgery, the method of using a probe to draw or 3D scanners to acquire intraoperative facial point clouds for spatial registration presents several issues. Manual manipulation results in inefficiency and poor consistency. Traditional registration algorithms based on point clouds are highly dependent on the initial pose.

Background: Fungal diseases of plants have a serious impact on the quality and yield of crops, and some traditional pesticides can no longer cope with this problem. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop new pesticides with high efficiency and low toxicity.

Results: A series of flavonoid derivatives containing benzothiazole were designed and synthesized.
