Afforestation areas defined by GIS in Gölbaşi specially protected area Ankara/Turkey.

Environ Monit Assess

September 2008

Agriculture Faculty, Department of Landscape Architecture, Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey.

This paper concentrates on determining the areas for afforestation and the development of conservation strategies and actions in the case where there is high demand for the conservation of a particular land area. The analysis of hydrological landscape structure and of erodibility was prerequisite in the methodological design considering the site-specific natural landscape characteristics of the study area. The Gölbaşi Specially Protected Area (SPA) being the case area has many local environmental disturbances, especially with respect to its hydrological system, and the area is beset by increasing demands for its use by the burgeoning human population.

Level and mechanisms of perceptual learning: learning first-order luminance and second-order texture objects.

Vision Res

June 2006

Memory, Attention, and Perception (MAP) Laboratory, Department of Cognitive Sciences, Institute of Mathematical Behavioral Sciences, University of California, Irvine, 92697-5100, USA.

Perceptual learning is an improvement in perceptual task performance reflecting plasticity in the perceptual system. Practice effects were studied in two object orientation tasks: a first order, luminance object task and a second-order, texture object task. Perceptual learning was small or absent in the first-order task, but consistently occurred for the second-order (texture) task, where it was limited to improvements in low external noise conditions, or stimulus enhancement [Dosher, B.

Alteration of HERG current profile during the cardiac ventricular action potential, following a pore mutation.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

December 1998

Department of Physiology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Bristol, United Kingdom.

HERG is believed to encode the major sub-unit of the cardiac 'rapid' delayed rectifier K channel (I(Kr)). Both I(Kr) and HERG exhibit marked inward rectification at positive membrane potentials due to rapid inactivation and this is thought to influence significantly the contribution of the current to cardiac action potential (AP) repolarisation. We investigated directly the role played by rapid inactivation, by measuring current activated by a ventricular AP waveform, from Chinese Hamster Ovary cells transfected with HERG cDNA with a point-mutation (S631A) in the pore region.

Calcium-permeable non-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor channels are now characterized in much detail, but still little is known about the consequences of Ca2+ influx through these channels in specific neuron types. We are interested in the role of Ca2+-permeable non-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor channels during differentiation of retinal ganglion cells. However, in view of the conflicting data on the relative Ca2+ permeability of non-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor channels in these neurons, a more systematic evaluation of permeation properties of different Na+ substitutes was necessary before proceeding with the main goal of the present study evaluating the effects of non-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor activation on repetitive firing and voltage-activated K+ and Ca2+ conductances.
