Aim: To investigate clinical significance of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and kidney damage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Material And Methods: 94 patients (84 women and 10 men, mean age 45.2 +/- 11.9 years and the disease duration 7.5 +/- 6.5 years) with RA and 20 donors were examined. In 37(39.4%) and 57(60.6%) patients radiological stages I-II and III-IV, respectively, were determined. TNF-alpha and C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured by ELISA.

Results: Serum levels of TNF-alpha in patients with RA appeared significantly higher than in donors (10.9 +/- 22.1 pg/ml vs 0.6 +/- 2.0 pg/ml, p < 0.001). 33 (35.1%) of 94 patients had TNF-alpha levels above 6.6 pg/ml. High serum levels of TNF-alpha correlated significantly with the presence of nephrotic syndrome (r = 0.22, p = 0.03) caused by secondary amyloidosis. There were no correlations between high levels of TNF-alpha and sex, age, disease duration, stages and clinical activity in patients with RA. Positive correlation was found between high levels of TNF-alpha and ESR (r = 0.30, p = 0.003), CRP (r = 0.37, p = 0.0001).

Conclusion: Thus, TNF-alpha may be involved in pathogenesis of amyloidosis in RA.

Background: Aging is associated with sustained low-grade inflammation, which has been linked to age-related diseases and mortality. Long-term exercise programs have been shown to be effective to for attenuating this process; however, subsequent detraining might negate some of these benefits. Master athletes, as a model of lifelong consistent exercise practice, have been suggested to present similar inflammatory profiles to untrained young adults.

This study investigates the protective effects of resveratrol (RSV) against heat stress (HS)-induced testicular injury in rats. Climate change has exacerbated heat stress, particularly affecting male fertility by impairing testicular function and sexual behavior. A total of 32 rats were allocated into four experimental groups: control, RSV control, HS control, and RSV + HS.

Objectives: To determine T helper (Th)1 and Th2 cytokine polarization, as well as high-sensitive cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) levels, in cats with pyometra.

Methods: We used 40 queens in the study. A total of 20 out of these 40 queens were diagnosed with the pyometra group (PYO) and the other 20 made up the healthy group (control; CTR).

The Relationship of Th/Th Cytokine Polarization at Parturition in Cows and SOCS3 Level With Some Postpartum Diseases.

Vet Med Sci

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Fırat University, Elazığ, Turkey.

Th/Th polarisation and suppressor of cytokine signalling-3 (SOCS3) are important indicators of the humoral and cellular immune system activity in cows. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation of postpartum diseases with the levels of Th/Th polarisation and SOCS3 at the time of parturition. The study examined 180 cows (90 with normal parturition [NP] and 90 with dystocia [D]).
