Introduction: Long-term data indicate that patients who underwent metabolic bariatric surgery have a higher risk of developing nutritional complications. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to monitor their nutritional status.
Methods: A scoping literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and TRIP database to identify clinical practice guidelines for nutritional screening before and after metabolic bariatric surgery from learned societies.

Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a rare acquired paraneoplastic syndrome caused by a mesenchymal tumor secreting a phosphaturic hormone called FGF23. Patients present with bone pain, fragility fractures and muscle weakness. Biochemical results show hypophosphatemia, raised serum alkaline phosphatase and reduced calcitriol.

Objective: Pedicle screw loosening is one of the common complications in elderly patients undergoing transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) for lumbar spine disease. Malnutrition, prevalent among elderly patients, has been shown to be associated with increased complications. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) serves as a simple indicator of nutritional status.

Background: The GNRI (Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index1) is an index used in geriatrics to predict the risk of complications and mortality associated with malnutrition. It considers serum albumin levels and the ratio of current weight or BMI to the ideal theoretical weight/BMI.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate this index in a population of metabolically stable chronic hemodialysis patients aged > 60 years and associate it with other nutritional markers.
Background: Research has highlighted the physical complications of starvation, but there is less research examining the psychological effects of starvation in humans.
Aims: This scoping review synthesises literature on the non-physical effects of starvation in humans.
Method: Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, we searched MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Global Health for studies published between 1946 and 2023 examining the non-physical effects of starvation in individuals aged 2-79 years, including those who were starved, malnourished, stunted, wasted, underweight, had a restrictive eating disorder, or were raised in famine conditions.
